The Heald Green has existed since I was a child (some 30-odd years) and still retains some of the character and charm of all those years ago, despite a Holiday/Premier Inn (whatever it is) being bolted on to the side now.
The beer is good, there's usually a guest ale on. The staff are superb, offering good recommendations on food (or advising against some meals due to portion size - a very nice touch that I appreciated, even if the brewery might not).
Very welcoming of my children, even when their behaviour has been below-par (below my expectations for when they eat out).
Attentive staff, cosy seating helps make me feel I can have a private conversation whilst in a restaurant environment.
Prices aren't exactly cheap, but I guess they're capitalising on being the only option in the area and having the hotel next door, but there are usually %-off offers available if you check newspapers, social media and/or the Beefeater website.
As I say, I have a soft spot for it as I've been going since I was 10 or so and I'm now in my 40s, but the food is great, the ale is great, the layout is great and the staff are wonderful.
No doubt I shall be back again, and for those that don't have a sweet tooth, they offer cheese and biscuits as dessert!
Popped in over weekend. We are returning customers as fairly local to where we live. My family always stay at the Premier Inn next door when they go on holiday. I highly recommend the ribs here. They are to die for. Yes it is slightly expensive but you get what you pay for and if you are served by the manager, Aeron, even better! Love that fact he goes the extra to make sure we are ok and looked after. Probably why we keep going back! Thank you Aeron, you always make our day when you serve us!
The food here is amazing. Had the Lamb with Kale, it was the tastiest meal ive had in years. My son had a burger, it went down very well. All the staff are very friendly.
