Wow, full flavor dim sum experience. Came early on Sunday and watched the tables fill to capacity. I took a picture of the dishes we ordered if interested. The squab is a specialty item they made fresh today and was just a bit salty with an option for sweet soy or spiced salt dipping. The outer wrap of the dumplings and the rice rolls were tender fresh and complemented the amazing seafood. The service here is stunning, we ordered 8 items but we were visited over 20 times with our plates replaced, tea pot exchanged, the empties cleared and assurances given for properly timed squab. Well done!
So thanks to Netflix and Seth Rogen and David Chang I found this place ! I always wanted to visit Canada and when going to Vancouver was possible I already had this place in mind! It’s in an shopping lot in Richmond area. Plenty of parking but be aware it is busy so chances are you even with a large lot it’ll be packed.
The restaurant is big! Way bigger than I had imagined. It was clean and also had a tv panels against one wall to make a jumbo screen! I was pretty impressed by that. Something I’m not use too at an dim sum spot. The restrooms were also decently sized too to match the restaurant Volume.
It was quite busy for a Thursday afternoon. Nonetheless, we got to ordering a TON of food. Like enough to where you knock out the first round or two or orders and you are left with a table that looks like no one ate off of it. Wow it was good and fresh and the sizes of the dim sum were larger than what I was use to. Quality wise I think the Asian community that lives here can be proud of this place ! I highly recommend it since it’s set up family style for a good time with the family or friends.
The shrimp dumplings and shrimp egg rolls were amongst my favorites ! Make sure to ask for extra soy sauce and condiments !
Service was good! But since they were so busy it was difficult to get the attention of our waiter. It’s probably a good idea to have a laundry list of things for your waiter or waitress to do every time you see them. It’ll make your life easier.
I would recommend if you are able to try this place !
A lot of friends have recommended SSW to me for dim sum, so I'm glad I finally had the opportunity to try it out. We went on the Mother's Day weekend, but we were seated relatively quickly (within 10-20 minutes). The inside is very spacious with lots of tables that are nicely spaced out. However parts of it are also dated (especially the washroom) and look like they could use some reno. There is an expansive menu of different dim sum items, with pricing being on the premium end. Overall the dim sum was good, but I feel it was overhyped as it wasn't as amazing as people made it sound and there were definitely some items that fell short. For instance, the custard lava buns had very little filling. Service was relatively friendly and attentive for a dim sum place.
