At night, while the restaurant glows to the light of candles, the sound of the restaurant is happiness and we can't recall eating in a restaurant where people were so visibly and audibly having such a good time. It's what Paul Ainsworth and his team do: use food, drink and exceptional service to make you happy and they do it very well indeed.

The air of capable enthusiasm from the serving staff made a whole lot of sense after head chef Paul Ainsworth had appeared at the start of service to do the rounds. I know it's easy for a restaurant blogger to be slightly starstruck on these occasions, but he was so happy and chatty, in the manner of someone who's got the best job in the world and knows it, that his staff needn't have looked hard for a lead.

This is our second time here and it was excellent/ exceptional as before ! Can’t fault the quality of food / personal attention given / from menus to the service ..! We started with the bar upstairs where we had a cocktail and champagne. The prices are very much central London but expected at a Michelin star restaurant…! The only slight negative I would point out was the old fashioned way as ok and not exceptionally good as I have had in some London bars ..! Set menu was amazing and wine list / selections etc was all awesome ..! The food was so delicious and everything was perfect that we wondered if it’s only a matter of time before they get 2 stars :) The scones were delicious with butter ..! Scallops were amazing…& so was pigeon ! Verdict - 5/5 Budget - easy £200 a head with drinks
