Ok I think this is my new favourite place. The cheese here is UNREAL. We had courses 4, 5 and 8 - each cheese was so unique and tasty, the accompanying wine was amazing and the sides with each cheese were thought through.
Don't miss out on the camemvert, this was a highlight!
The staff were really lovely and this was an evening out I'd highly recommend.
Incredible experience. We booked it not knowing what to expect apart from just eating vegan cheese but we were blown away by how delicious the meals were! The waitress was so knowledgeable and catered so well, making sure every table knew exactly what was on the menu by patiently describing and giving suggestions. She made our experience super good, pity we didn’t get her name. It was dark in the cellar but we remember she had long, light hair. We had 3 single meals and 1 double (the Camembert one) and had six glasses of wine and champagne, and also bought two cheeses from the shop before we left. It cost us just under £100! Don’t worry as one meal is only £15 with a drink. We were greedy and ordered a lot. My husband, whom I planned this dinner without, didn’t expect much as he wasn’t big about vegan cheese despite being plant-based but he was obsessed! We wanted to try everything but sadly were full - never mind because we will 100% be back. 🙌🏻
La Fauxmagerie have a great selection vegan cheeses. I’d recommend the cheese tasting night (every Friday + Saturday) so you can try lots of different ones. Here’s what I tried from their menu:
1. The Traditionalist 🏆
Shoreditch smoked was the winner for me. It was super creamy, easy to spread and had the right amount of tang to balance the smokiness.
G.O.A.T was another one of our favourites. Very easy to eat and not too overpowering.
3. The Vampire Slayer 🧛♂️
The garlic oil Rigotta is very subtle in cheese and garlic flavour but if you pair it with the Hot Rhuby Chutney, it is incredible - definitely recommend 👌
The garlic & herb (pink one) on the other hand was super garlicky! Best eaten in small bites.
5. The Blue 🌀
Brixton blue was one of the stronger flavoured cheeses and had a beautiful black veins marbled through it. The pickled pears tasted like Christmas and were beautifully poached.
Balham blue was our least favourite and ended up leaving on our of our plates. My friend described it as tasting of chemicals. It had a very peculiar flavour to it.
7. The Levantine 🫒
Fetamorphosis - the flavour of these feta cubes was so delicate, it was on the tasteless side but had a good texture.
The Clapton chive was another top cheese. It reminded me of sage and onion stuffing. Best paired with something plain as the cheese itself is on the salty side. We really enjoyed the grilled Dormat olives 🫒
Booking a table here was super easy and staff were friendly but we were made to feel like we had overstayed our welcome soon after we finished our cheeses, even though it was 2 hours before closing. Our waitress even stood by the cellar door until we got up from our seats.
