Unexpectedly, Chicha invited us back after hearing about our initial experience and I’m glad to say we had an amazing time and we will no doubt be returning here with friends and family again!
We ordered a similar medley of dishes and could tell immediately that the quality and thoughtfulness of each dish was improved. All of our starters were equally delicious - highly recommend the croquetas, jalea mixta (fried seafood mix) and the corn cake. Plating was top notch and this was no different with the mains, the octopus tentacle was a complete 180 from last time and was significantly more enjoyable and visually stunning. For those with a sweet tooth, you must try their freshly made churros which were crispy, sugary and hot - we appreciated the generous amount of chocolate sauce this time too!
Needless to say, the cocktails were just as impressive as the first time, and they do not hold back on the alcohol (nicely done Carlos!). Make sure to get the Ipanema Girl and Pabilito Escobar. They also do an alcohol free Ayahuasca for those who don’t drink.
Special thanks to Francis for kindly reaching out and addressing our concerns, Carlos and Zara for the excellent service and hospitality and the chefs for the fantastic food. Chicha genuinely does care about their customers and we’re glad to be able
to experience this fully. Very much appreciated and we’ll see you again :)
*********** Left previous review (3/5 but now highly recommend 5/5) for transparency but focus on the above instead :) ***********
Overall just ok, don’t come with high expectations
The good:
Food was mostly good, we ordered 5 starters, 3 mains and a dessert for 4 people which was enough - ceviche was delicious and we enjoyed most of the starters, the mains were hit and miss though, the baja fish tacos were crispy and the slaw was nice, though they were pretty basic in honesty
Cocktails were strong and aesthetically pleasing
Nice atmosphere with the decorations and dim light
Churros were crispy and hot but they could be more generous with the chocolate sauce
Gave us drink vouchers for another visit as compensation for the service being a bit slow but there were only 2 servers on a Sunday and it was fairly busy so props to them
The bad:
Portions were quite small and overall expensive for what it is
We were charged full price for cocktails despite ordering them during Happy Hour, but this was overlooked as we rushed to pay the bill
The octopus tentacle was definitely not worth £19, it looked completely different from what was posted online, the size, sides/garnishes and plating was so disappointing
The lomo saltado - steak and chips was nothing special, sauce mostly tasted of soy sauce and it didn’t seem unique but at least the portion size was more reflective of its price
We were lucky enough to try the new menu at 50% off tonight and will definitely be back. The ceviche was perfect and served alongside sweet potato with a purple corn glaze, amazing! Everything else we had was beautifully cooked, carefully presented and delicious. We'll be back again for sure and can recommend Chicas very highly indeed.
What a great gem in Lewisham. The food was fantastically flavoured and beautifully presented. Highlights were the Croquetas de Aji de Gallina (Chicken Croquettes), Jalea Mixta (fried mix seafood), Baja Fish Taco and Sea bream Ceviche Limeño. Only dish that could be improved was the Cauliflower Mole. It was served as steamed/boiled, but the cauliflower would benefit from being served like grilled sliced cauliflower steaks, or battered buffalo style. The cocktails were excellent- tasty and strong Margaritas with a nice touch of chilli. Very friendly and efficient service (💯Carlos and Zara) Would recommend this highly
