The last time I visited Portobello Road I ate from one of the food stalls on the street and was violently ill, so this time I was looking for somewhere a bit more established. I found some chi-chi looking overpriced restaurants on nearby Westbourne Grove, but in the end I asked one of the street traders where I could find a traditional London café serving proper meals. I was directed to the café in Chelsea Galleries antiques market which is tucked away on its own on the upper floor. It was bright and clean and, judging by the banter going on across the counter, had a good number of regular customers from amongst the local traders. I was made to feel most welcome by the enthusiastic young staff and my organic venison burger was delicious. I will definitely go back next time I'm in London.
Wow! A café in London actually run by Londoners. I had a "full English breakfast" here on Saturday morning. Very nice and very friendly.
