Had to wait 10 minutes, when I got it there were loads of empty seats - i guess it’s a crowd control thing, can’t imagine coming here on a weekend. Went for their set meal and it was superb. I went off the popular bao, got the braised beef and it was the best decision. Make sure to have this meal with their spicy sauce as it adds a kick. Taiwanese chicken was crunchy and does not disappoint.
The food was quite good, and the service is very friendly and helpful.
I wanted the 40 Day Aged Beef, Taipei Butter Rice, but they were having problems with their grill so it was unfortunately not on offer.
The Fried Chicken BAO has a nice textural contrast between the soft and spongy bread and the crispy chicken. Spicy mayo and kimchi balanced out the fried chicken well.
The Cold Smoked Aubergine had a nice flavor, and again with the textures, the Panko BAO had a nice crispy exterior and super soft interior. And cold aubergine with hot bao, all about that contrast! It was a little difficult to scoop the aubergine onto the bao on its own, so I used chopsticks to pick the eggplants up and place them on the bao instead.
The Prawn Shia Song BAO was fine -- I'd say weakest of the bunch. It's set up like a lobster roll. The roll itself is seemingly deep fried and doughnut like. The prawns are cooked all the way through, meaning they're on the tougher side. Pieces of the filling (shrimp and some bits of vegetables) fell out as I ate it because the roll is a little stiff, so every bite would result in all the shrimp filling getting squeezed out. The overall flavor was decent, but also not particularly memorable.
I must admit that the food is not cheap given the amount of food you get, but I also can't judge the value proposition for you. I can only say that I did enjoy the food.
If you love tapas style of dining then you should give this a go.
A menu with many small dishes that have helpful labels for vegeteraian, vegan and length of time to cook.
I enjoyed the fried chicken and classic bao.
If you want something different try the cold smoked aubergine, fried sesame bao. Very different textures with a deep fried sesame bao and heavily smoked aubergine. All 3 of us enjoyed this unique dish.
They have an interesting selection of drinks and I wanted to try more but I'm a lightweight when it comes to alcohol.
Lastly, we had an amazing staff member serve us. She was friendly, polite and helped us with menu reccomendations and how many dishes per person we should order.
Would love to come back again and try other dishes.
