I am well acquainted with the word Brat. Usually hurled as an almost expletive when I was growing up with my brother, it would not be my first choice for a restaurant name. It brings back too many memories of rather rancorous arguments. However, I would think that calling your restaurant after a word that might be likely to cause friction was not the intention. Hopping on to google, I found the real reason for the name.
This place was divine! Everything from the small plates of Velvet Crab to Grilled Bread with Chanterelle & Truffle culminating in the Smoked Cod’s Roe were outstanding.
Greg our gracious server was exemplary in answering our questions and in sharing his recommendations which were spot on! Having just arrived from Chicago for a visit with our daughter, we were eager to try everything.
After ordering their signature Whole Turbot, we were tempted to also add two more main dishes. Greg cautioned us that one more dish would suffice so luckily we took his advice. Choosing the Wood Pigeon, we were entirely captivated by the intense flavor and quality.
The turbot was presented by sous chef Zach who brilliantly explained the cooking process from grill to oven. It was easy to eat with the fillets separated from the collar and other parts. It was a challenge to finish everything but the fish was so good, nothing but bones were left. Smoked potatoes were another must have.
Despite our satiated state, we managed to share some burnt cheesecake and caramel cream. Paired together it was even more delicious. We had a fabulous time - great unpretentious service, locally sourced and uniquely prepared. A memorable experience!
We went there for lunch and it was one of THE BEST experiences I had in food industry. We didn’t book so we walked-in and sat at the bar. Every plate we picked was full of flavour, surprising taste and texture. Dishes were simple but mastered to perfection. I think menu changes from time to time what makes it even more exciting to come back to. Nice selection of wines and spirits. Nice ambience with old deco located on the upper level of the building. Waiters with cool and casual uniforms. We had a good recommendations from a Waiter about the wines although I was missing his smile and enthusiasm. The others seem to have the same kind of attitude.
That’s why I gave one star less for service.
Overall I love the place and recommend it to all my friends visiting London.
I look forward going back too.
