Enjoyed an excellent meal here last night. Lovely building, beautifully decorated, knowledge and attentive staff, great lighting and lovely atmosphere. Loved the table centrepieces - little ceramic dark bowls with gold leaved interiors with tealights. Very interesting, seasonal and very well constructed menu complimented with well put together wine list with wines from around the globe. Not sure how this little gem is not in the Good Food Guide. It definitely should be!!
A true gem in a beautiful building. This is a top class restaurant. The food is sublime and superior to anything else you will.find in Lincoln. An excellent wine list, lovely decor and friendly knowledgeable and efficient staff make this a very special place indeed.
We had the most delicious meal at this fabulous restaurant last night and it was absolutely perfect. The food was so beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. The knowledge about where the food is sourced was excellent. Dietary needs seem well catered for when mentioned in advance. The decor, service and ambiance are all faultless I don’t usually manage three courses but couldn’t resist the gingerbread mousse with blackberry ice cream. Thank you for a truly memorable evening, we’ll be back.
First time eating here today and was very impressed. Fantastic service and amazing, delicious food. Would definitely recommend.
Totally superb food, attentive and very knowledgable staff. Nothing was too much trouble and I'm a picky eater. The beef dish is to die for. Thank you.
The food is the Best in Lincoln, service was nice, and atmosphere was ok but little bit loud.
Both me and my friend have eaten at Michelin star restaurants and the Jews house eclipsed them in terms of:service, friendliness, atmosphere and the food. Samantha is very friendly and indulged all my questions about wine and was very informative about the food and clearly incredibly passionate. Excellent wine, beautiful food and incredibly friendly owner and staff! If you’re in Lincoln indulge yourself and go to the Jews house.
Stayed to celebrate in Lincoln just for one night, so we wanted something special.
We had high expectations, and that place still overdelivered.
The portions are very interesting, but also substantial. You won't leave hungry, I promise.
Sorbet was the name of the game. Horseradish sorbet, coriander sorbet, melon sorbet. Absolutely amazing.
The service was very friendly, but extremely precise.
Overall, immensely enjoyed the visit. Probably the best dinner we've had in the UK this year.
Absolutely sensational food, some of the best I’ve ever eaten. Samantha and Gavin do an excellent job of bringing dishes together, making the dining experience unforgettable in the best possible way. Service: Brilliant - Food: Truly exceptional.
Located in a beautiful 12th century stone house on the famous Steep Hill, I was told this is arguably the best restaurant in Lincoln. Based on my experience, I won't be the one disputing that. I absolutely loved it!
It is sympathetically restored and beautifully decorated. Modern additions of light stained framewood contrasts with the much older darker beams. The white painted ceiling between the beams and white walls brightens the place, but not too much, just enough, as it is combined with rich ochre and exposed stone walls. The palette of rich, bold ochre and red colours continues in the choice of materials, the velvet chairs and wall sitting area wonderfully complementing the darker wood of the tables.
At the same time, the dimmed lighting provided by the lamps carefully positioned, almost requires a few minutes for your eyes to get used to it and take it all in. It is then, when sitting at the table that one can really appreciate the beauty of the place: stylish, upmarket, very elegant and classy, almost with a feel of a stately home.
The way in, through a narrow and low ceiling side passage, is wonderfully quirky and totally belies what is to come. It almost has a theatrical way about it, opening into the compact entrance where you are met by the superb Samantha and staff.
The food is absolutely delicious. I went all fishy on the day: cornish turbot as starter and seabass as main. I loved the imagination of some of the elements on the plate and the combination of flavours and textures, as well as the presentation.
I chose the strawberry n elderflower jelly dessert on the day, with champagne consommé, white chocolate mousse and a rapsberry sorbet. Sweetness and acidity perfectly balanced and a fitting end to a wonderful meal.
The atmosphere is great, very relaxed, so much so that I established easy conversation with some of the dinners, some regular customers driving over an hour to come to this restaurant as, according to them, it is not only the best restaurant in Lincoln but one of the very best in the area.
And if you are into wine, fear not, the wine list is extensive and Samantha's knowledge phenomenal.
A beautiful restaurant with delicious food, great staff and exceptional service. Unmissable!
