Last month, I was fortunate to taste the cooking of Onidodo and being 1/2 Nigerian myself I was so excited to go and try out some authentic Nigerian cooking and Onidodo did not disappoint! Newly opened in February, this beautiful restaurant serves up the finest in Nigerian cuisine by their head chef Dare. If you go to a Nigerian restaurant you definitely would need a Chapman! A traditional Nigerian fruit-based cocktail mixed with white rum. This cocktail is super sweet and is enjoyed especially when the weather is hot! I also opted for a frozen strawberry daiquiri and as the weather was quite hot, this went down a treat. It was lovely to sip on a nice cocktail, as I waited for my food and grooves to the Afro beats that were playing in the background. For starters, I ordered a few to share between myself and my friend. I was surprised how quickly the starters came as we only waited 15 minutes max before our starters came. First to try was Asun, which is chopped goat meat, marinated in Scotch bonnet and red onion. This starter really makes the mouth water and has an authentic in taste, just like the Asun that you would receive from a local street shop in Nigeria, wrapped in newspaper. However, this is not for the faint-hearted as the spice is prominent. Secondly, we tried their Suya, which is grilled thin beef slices, marinated in traditional suya sauce. I love their Suya as it is cooked bbq style, allowing the smoky taste to remain. The beef slices are tender, chewy and well seasoned. This Nigerian delicacy is one of my favourite starters! Nkwobi is diced cow leg, tossed in a spicy palm oil broth. The trick of getting Nkowbi right is making sure that the cow leg is soft and dewy and Onidodo sure did! With the cow leg pieces melting as it reached my mouth and was extremely soft. However, you are warned as this starter is full of spice and will definitely make the mouth and eyes water. For the vegetarians, Dare has created a twist on the loved halloumi cheese and has created halloumi suya. Grilled halloumi cheese marinated in suya spice. For my mains, I went for Efo Riro, which is a traditional Nigerian soup, with spinach and assorted meat. I chose to serve my stew with pounded yam. The Efo Riro is fresh and bursting with flavour. The portions are well sized and are enough to fill any hungry belly. My friend chose the lamb chops Naija style, which is served with jollof rice and plantain. The lamb cutlets are well seasoned, and not too soft but neither too hard. For the price of £16, you get what you pay for as these cutlets are on the huge side! I love how Onidodo prides themselves on presentation as the presentation is key and all the food served is beautifully presented. They also have a variety of choice of food, so you can still taste authentic Nigerian cooking whether you are Nigerian or not. Food also came after about a 10-20 minute wait. Overall I loved my experience at Onidodo, the busiest times are Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays and if you are local you can always order through deliveroo and Ubereats.

My friends and I got there quite late at night and therefore weren’t sure if there would be much food left but there was plenty! The customer service was a amazing and the food portions were generous. It is pretty expensive but it was definitely worth it.

Great food. Okay atmosphere - a bit loud (customers and general music). Not so great table service. Some waitresses are lovely whilst the fair few have an attitude. However would definitely go again.
