I visited Casa Romana last week with family. Our party consisted of two omnivores and two vegans, and we all found plenty of choice.
As a vegan, I've sometimes settled for a simple tomato pasta or pizza without cheese at Italian restaurants, however the efforts Casa Romana have gone to in order to cater to plant-based eaters is really impressive. They offer a full vegan menu which is wonderfully varied. I enjoyed garlic bread for my starter and a lovely "creamy" mushroom pasta for my main.
During our meal, the chef made a real effort with us, coming out of the kitchen to ask for our opinion and offering us vegan parmesan for our pasta. Even though we were stuffed at the end of our meal, he emerged with some vegan desserts to try (a meringue and a bread and butter pudding) and both were delicious.
It was so wonderful to come to a mainstream restaurant and have our dietary choices welcomed and embraced rather than seen as an inconvenience.
Thank you so much, Casa Romana. We will definitely return whenever we're in town!
We came in to the Whitehaven Restaurant on a Saturday lunchtime, as a family of four, and my elder daughter, aged 12, is probably best described as food phobic. She has an extremely limited number of foods she will eat and anything unfamiliar is almost impossible for her to eat.
With this very limited diet she loved margarita pizza but struggles with the tomato sauce if it is lumpy. She tries hard as she knows her eating is disruptive to everyone but she has not been able to make much progress over the last 10 years since this began.
On this occasion she was trying to eat the margarita pizza that she had ordered but was finding it difficult because the tomato sauce was a bit too lumpy for her. We noticed and were trying discreetly to suggest ways she could tackle the meal, when the waiter came over and so sensitively spoke to us to find out if there was a problem. She wouldn't take no for an answer as she could tell that my daughter was uncomfortable. When we explained the situation, she spoke directly to my daughter and asked her exactly how she would like her pizza and reassured her that she was perfectly within her rights to ask for the food the way she wanted it. She then returned to the kitchen and a short while later brought out a pizza with much less tomato on for my daughter.
In ten years of living with this eating problem as a family, this is the first time our situation has been handled with such sensitivity and helpfulness. Not only this, but the food was delicious! We are just sorry that we are only in the area on holiday, otherwise we'd be eating here all the time. This is without any doubt the best service we have ever received in any restaurant anywhere.
Beautiful food, perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients giving wonderful flavours. Good portion sizes, your not overfaced, leaving plenty of room for dessert and excellent value for money. The burger is fantastic and the kids loved the homemade tomato sauce for the chips.
Definitely worth a visit and we will be back again! Thankyou.
