Had lunch today and wow it's fantastic. Started with a mixed platter gorgeous, then meatloaf which was so light but flavoursome and salmon pasta then a trio of Panna cotta and a crema with cinnamon fruit. We really recommend this place if you want authentic Italian food and good service just can't fault it and we'll be back in July can't wait X
Our second visit to the Osteria. We started with a wonderful platter of mixed meats, cheeses with honey, a deep fried bread dish, white cabbage quiche etc. Next I had a hearty agnello Tuscan stew and my wife had a zucchini pasta dish. We both finished with lovely panda cotta and were very satisfied and full. The diners next to our table that it was their best Italian fare outside Italy, and I think the Osteria Caernarfon is pretty much up there.
It had been a long day for us as we'd travelled from Anglesey to the end of the Llyn Peninsula and early bite to eat was just what we needed before the journey back to our caravan in Rhosneigr.
We decided on Italian and I phoned for a reservation as soon as we saw that Osteria was the highest rated Italian in Caernarfon. We booked for 6pm with no problem despite it being the Bank Holiday Sunday.
It was a bit of a trial to find the restaurant which is in a pedestrian area very close to the castle but with the help of Google maps and a good sense if direction we made it just before 6pm.
We sat outside for a couple of minutes before the waiter (proprietor?) noticed us and welcomed us in. We had the choice if ant table for two, upstairs or downstairs and we chose upstairs which is light and airy.
The waiter took time to explain the menu and came to take our order after a few minutes. The wine list is extensive and there was Peroni available, much to my husband's delight.
There was a list of around 10 bruschetta and we decided on a sharing platter of three different ones each for £10. A perfect starter.
Then we both ordered from he specials board. I asked for lasagne, which was creamy and perfectly seasoned. My husband ordered the pasta with a creamy pepper sauce and courgettes. He was very happy with this simple pasta dish.
And then we chose from panacotta, a fruit topped custard tart and a almond covered chocolate tart with cream.
All served with attention and humour. Many thanks to our waiter who made the evening most enjoyable.
When we left around 7.30pm there were still a couple of tables available despite this being a busy weekend so if you haven't booked I'm sure there'd be room if you crossed your fingers ;)
