Luckily managed to get a table for lunch when we dropped in for a pint. Really friendly service, and the roasts were excellent (really good attention to detail such as the cabbage and cauli). Venison Scotch egg highly recommended. Hopper and Wherry both very nicely kept. Kids meals really good quality too.
A really excellent lunch after the near-death experiences in the wind on the coastal path beforehand :-)
We came for the hike towards the sand dunes which was absolutely amazing. With the tides coming and going it was a birdwatchers paradise even before you actually reach the beach.
We had some dinner afterwards at Hero, great food and nice atmosphere.
We popped in for something to eat on our way home. The restaurant was really busy but they found us a table, and I am very pleased they did.
It looks and feels like a traditional old boozer, and in many respects it is. The atmosphere is super friendly and casual. The tables are not fussy and there’s a very efficient wood-burner at one end. A better look at the menu though and you’ll find that the Hero elevates itself was above the average pub. There are all the things you’d expect - burger, fish and chips etc - but I ordered the guinea fowl and it was amazing.
The service was excellent. Friendly, knowledgeable and efficient, but above all of that… very thoughtful. Our server (Ruby) could see that we were getting a bit too warm in our seats by the fire and as soon as a couple had paid up and left, she offered to move us. We hadn’t complained but really appreciated the fact that Ruby was looking out for her clients.
