Luckily managed to get a table for lunch when we dropped in for a pint. Really friendly service, and the roasts were excellent (really good attention to detail such as the cabbage and cauli). Venison Scotch egg highly recommended. Hopper and Wherry both very nicely kept. Kids meals really good quality too. A really excellent lunch after the near-death experiences in the wind on the coastal path beforehand :-)

We came for the hike towards the sand dunes which was absolutely amazing. With the tides coming and going it was a birdwatchers paradise even before you actually reach the beach. We had some dinner afterwards at Hero, great food and nice atmosphere.

We popped in for something to eat on our way home. The restaurant was really busy but they found us a table, and I am very pleased they did. It looks and feels like a traditional old boozer, and in many respects it is. The atmosphere is super friendly and casual. The tables are not fussy and there’s a very efficient wood-burner at one end. A better look at the menu though and you’ll find that the Hero elevates itself was above the average pub. There are all the things you’d expect - burger, fish and chips etc - but I ordered the guinea fowl and it was amazing. The service was excellent. Friendly, knowledgeable and efficient, but above all of that… very thoughtful. Our server (Ruby) could see that we were getting a bit too warm in our seats by the fire and as soon as a couple had paid up and left, she offered to move us. We hadn’t complained but really appreciated the fact that Ruby was looking out for her clients.

The food here is simply the amazing excellent quality and generous portions. I was really impressed...I was just driving by when I decided to pop in for Sunday (roast chicken)lunch. The only thing that spoilt my time here. Was a staff member a young girl in a three quarter length light blue skirt. SheFelt that it was OK to take a lie down in the eating area In full view of the customers which I felt was very disrespectful.Another customer actually commented on this but this did not seem to bother her in the slightest. Shame as this young lady let the team down with this odd behaviour!Management be proud of your team of which the majority do a outstanding job.

*Restaurant only review* Thanks for fitting us in for lunch on a busy day without reservations! Lovely place for lunch, very buzzy and nice atmosphere, cool decor and loved the art on the walls. Enjoyed our lunch and hope to return!

Four of us called in for a late lunch and were fitted in. Lovely food and beer, great after a breezy mornings walk! Highly recommended! (The 6oz rump steak in a ciabatta was perfect, altho the very generous sticky toffee pudding was a bit overcooked for my liking)

Met up with family to celebrate a birthday. It was our first time visiting but will certainly return. There were 7 adults and a toddler. The menu was predominantly Sunday roasts but other options were available. It included a vegan roast and there was a separate children's menu. The roast was delicious with huge portions and so there was no room for desert. Our waiter was amazing and thoughtful, checking all was okay and understanding that a toddler had completely different ideas about what and when to eat. The pub was cosy and warm although we were near the door so had to close it as people leaving had forgotten. The bar seemed to have a good range of drinks as well as tea and coffee. There was a small zero alcohol range but plenty of soft drinks. Most people appeared to be rosy cheeked dog walkers enjoying good food after a cold walk. We would definitely return, with great walks near by and a welcome and warm reception with good food, how can we not. Our only issue, as others have said, was parking. We managed to park towards the harbour, being aware of high tide we parked on the higher side. I would recommend to anyone.

Fantastic lunch on Friday 12th Jan. A warm and contemporary feel with big tables and chairs so the dogs could also be comfortable. The food was excellent and the staff really made the whole experience wonderful. Highly recommend and will be back soon. Gavin. Cirencester

What a find!...on holiday in the area we were looking for somewhere for lunch and how lucky we were to find The Hero named after Admiral Nelson who was born nearby. A truly traditional pub with a lively atmosphere, good food, excellent beer and welcoming service. Mid range pricing but great value for money. Highly recommend a visit.

Had a comfortable stay here. Food is excellent and staff are very attentive. The whole venue is beautifully decorated. The rooms are nice and have all you would need. Any issues we had was sorted quickly. I think the rooms could do with a deep clean from time to time. Bed was very comfortable, we stayed on ground floor undisturbed, hope to stay here again some time.

Lovely refuge on a cold, windy Spring afternoon for a couple of very good coffees and free WiFi while other members of the party walked to Holkham Beach.
