As it was Monday and early, it wasn’t busy.
When I eat out somewhere new, I look for the hygiene rating and reviews.
Any food hygiene rating below an 4 gets a miss.
Any restaurant’s average rating below a 4 usually gets a miss.
The food MUST be hot and so to the plates, if they’re not, I’m unlikely to return.
Both of the staff that we encountered were polite and friendly, and service was great.
Mixed kebab was good.
Chicken Naga, the best I’ve ever had. Perfect.
My wife’s Chicken Rezella was also very nice.
Mushroom rice and chips to share also didn’t disappoint.
We’ve visited the Bengal Brasserie and Bombay spice in the area and the meals at the Raj, imo, were superior.
The interior is dated though, but times are tough at the moment for restaurants to fund refurbs
Very small nitpick - Staff could do with being in a uniform.
5 star hygiene rating.
Decent Google rating.
Food and plates hot.
And the meals worth every penny.
Would I return?? If we are in the area again, 100% we will return.
I had the chicken dopiaza what can I say the best curry I have had in York.
The food was well cooked and portions are good and the food was ready in around 15 minutes.
Waiter staff were friendly and polite they even arranged seating for a large group of people that turned up from the street.
I would recommend this place.
When I am next in York I will be going back there for a curry.
The food is amazing, get the Lamb Imani and garlic naan, I’ve eaten here with friends many times and when I order the Imani it is always everyone’s favorite dish. Absolutely just an amazing dish!
