Had the most enjoyable experience here a few months ago. The food was fantastic, the staff were so helpfully and the head chef was a delight. I will definitely book another table and recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
Thank you to all the staff.
We have been to 29 States a few times now and have always been impressed with the food and service.
It was so sad to hear how badly the restaurant had been affected by the floods this winter and so as soon as they were back open we booked a table.
Noting they are running a Living Social deal of a two course meal and glass of Prossecco for 2 for £19.00 we bought this in advance.
Returning to 29 States after their refurb we received a warm welcome from the staff. The decor and flooring looks fabulous and the whole place looks refreshed.
The Living Social deal means you can order food from the menu upto a certain value and then pay the difference of you want a higher prices meal.
Popadoms and dips were also included in the deal. The food is served with a modern touch. With elegant plates and classy bowls. The dips are the norm but the Popadoms are triangular and gives the impression it's that little bit different.
The glass of Prosecco was delicious and not skimpy by any means (we ended up buying a bottle of it to go with our meal)
The kids selection is either fish fingers or chicken nuggets both served with chips and under £3.00. Tom's had these before and they were really nice. This time he wanted to have the same as us (what he really meant was Naan, Rice & Chips).
The starters were delicious Paul had Seekh Kebab and I the Chicken.
For main I had the Chicken Chettinad and Paul Lamb Laal Maas. Forgetting the volume of food served we also ordered a Pulao & Saffron rice. The food was absolutley spot on. Appealing, pleasant to look at and absolutley delicious.
They state its Indian Cuisine with a modern twist theme and it really is. The food is served with style and class with a taste to match.
The staff are ever so friendly, the chef made an appearance and we left absolutley stuffed yet ready to return again soon.

We've just returned from yet another wonderful evening at our favourite Indian restaurant, 29 States of India - York, and honestly, we couldn't recommend it highly enough. Not only is the food authentic, tasty and constantly impressive, but the service and hospitality is second to none. Being Coeliac and therefore on a strict gluten free diet, it's not always easy to find safe and welcoming independent restaurants, however we wouldn't dream of going anywhere else now after several extremely lovely experiences, both as diners at the restaurant and as take-away customers.
Service aside, the food really is very, very good - everyone we have introduced to this restaurant has agreed. I urge you to see for yourself! :)
