Nice historic hotel in a lovely village location with some good shops. The room was an OK size as was the bathroom. One or two little tired spots. TV control had an almost flat battery which was irritating. Hair dryer blew up (strange noise and smoking then completely stopped) but they quickly replaced it. Fire alarm went off at 7am one morning and everyone came out into the courtyard. No sign of staff and when someone did appear, it was just brushed off. Meals were on the pricey side but food was good and service was timely. The same menu applies in the bar and in the restaurant so we chose to eat in the bar. The kitchen struggled to cope with the number of guests at prime time breakfast time and some people were complaining about their breakfast, sending it back, cancelling it etc. Ours was fine and we enjoyed it. The waitress was polite and professional. Parking in the overflow carpark near to our room was fine and we paid £10 a night for this - always able to get a space although the hotel was quite busy. We will probably go back again in the future as the hotel is a 10 minute walk from Blenheim Palace which we visited for a day and really enjoyed, so we will want to make best use of our annual pass.
My husband and I had thoroughly enjoyable stay at The Bear; the room was beautiful with lovely oak beams and the bed was comfortable, we also had the option to have breakfast delivered to our room! All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and location is perfect for exploring Woodstock and Blenheim Palace which is a stones throw away from the hotel! Thank you for a lovely stay; we will be back!
I've stayed here twice now. My room was fabulous, it overlooked the main road in Woodstock and was very quiet.
The staff were lovely and helpful.
I will definitely go back again.
