Small but enjoyable restaurant. If you live in Kingston upon Thames, you may have passed this restaurant hundreds of times and not known what is inside. You hardly notice it on the road! Once me and my parents discovered Sorrento by walking pass it one day, we made a reservation and went that night.
*** SEATING ***
The seating inside Sorrento is VERY limited. I'd say 20 tables maximum with just over 100 seats. You MUST book in advance if you want to eat at Sorrento or you'll have to go elsewhere.
*** SPEED ***
Once we ordered our food, the drinks arrived in 3 minutes. My parents starters arrived in 15 minutes and after the starters, the main courses than took 15 more minutes. 33 minutes waiting. That's OK considering the restaurant was full and it was starter AND main course.
*** PRICE ***
£76 (incl. tip & service) was our total bill which is fairly reasonable. I am including starters. (Urbanspoon don't count starters in cost of meal per person). So excluding starters, it's about £20 per person.
*** CLEANLINESS ***
The floors were spotless and I found no grubbiness or any dirt on the inside or outside of the restaurant.
*** PRESENTATION ***
All of our dishes were presented in a beautiful way!
*** TASTINESS ***
My sirloin steak tasted lovely! However, I did ask for it 'well done' and it was a bit pink in the middle. However, the rich taste made up for it being slightly undercooked. My mum's fish was lovely and my dad's chicken was very tasty. The carrots we had on the side tasted average but the potatoes were really rich in flavour but a little too strong-flavoured for my liking.
*** STAFF ***
We saw 5 waiters on our visit all of whom had great character and were happy to serve us!
*** TIP ***
Tip was included with the cost.
*** OVERALL ***
Overall, Sorrento is a good restaurant with lovely meat, despite it being an Italian restaurant. Even though our food wasn't Italian it was great, the service was fairly quick, the staff are nice and it's clean.
STAR RATING: *** (out of 5*)
/10 RATING: 6/10
URBANSPOON RATING: I like it.
Booked,6 people for dinner at short notice. Menu and specials had a good and varied number of options. Prices were v reasonable. Food was good and main course generous portions. Staff v nice waiter Victor was funny. Only negative was coffee a little weak. I would not hesitate to return. Well done.
Exceptional food including the appetizers, the mains and the desserts (by the way this review is on behalf of 3 people). Service was very patient, polite and helpful as well. Atmosphere was romantic and calm too, no wonder so many people came in despite that it was a street restaurant. May very well be the best around the area.
