Found this little gem of a tearoom whilst staying at Barnard Castle for a short break. Received a friendly welcome and huge smiles from lady as we went in. Also excellent service from a lovely young lady waiting on the tables. Many other tearooms should take lessons from these two. Hubby had sandwiches with salad, freshly made coffee. Know this as young waitress commented on small wait due to making fresh coffee. I had cheese and onion toasties, also with salad and pot of beautifully made tea. Keep up the good work ladies.

Called in for a bite to eat today after a walk around High Force. The place is cute and charming with lots to look at whilst you wait for your coffee/ tea to arrive. Drinks were served on silver trays which I’m certain made them taste even better. The food was lovely, homemade coleslaw was delicious. I’ll definitely return, maybe for a scone next time!!

We were greeted with great kindness at Maxine’s last Friday when forced back by snow from driving on to Alston where friends were waiting for us at the Cumberland Inn. The wonderful lady who brought us a comforting hot cuppa phoned the Inn to explain our plight and sent us on our way again (behind the snow plough) delighted not only with her tea and sympathy but also with a 50-piece Corbridge dinner set bought for a bargain. From now on we shall always look in when passing through St Johns Chapel.
