The Olive Tree is a pub and restaurant in Southampton airport, at airside. It is very pleasantly decorated and does actually have trees in it, which is welcome as some airport or train station eateries can be fairly lifeless and corporate. I visited on a sunny day and it was nice to sit in a booth and see the sunlight streaming through the skylights.
The staff could not have been any nicer.. so smiley and helpful! My meal was lovely, beer battered fish and chips which had a light, crunchy and tasty batter, and very delicate fish. the chips were skin on and quite generous in portion, and the mushy peas had a hint on mint to make them seem a little more special. I didn't touch the tartare sauce (not a fan) but all in all, a very good meal.
Four stars as some of its drinks are a little on the pricey side, in my opinion, although I suppose being an airside location one should expect to pay a little more.
Flight side eaterie that does a varied breakfast menu at reasonable prices. My expectations were not high, but the crocque monsieur was simply delicious - fluffy, packed with flavour and with a nicely dressed side salad. Add an egg for something that knocks the socks off offerings from Cote Brasserie, Cafe Rouge and the like. Good coffee too.
I can't believe they only have a 2.4 star rating! We have just had a pre flight lunch and everyone in our family was very pleased. We were a bit late for the full English. The chilli was really fresh, a little heat, and a good size portion. Mac & cheese was "comfortably filling" according to my wife. Garlic bread was delicious. Everyone loved their burgers! The guy that served us was really friendly.
