One of numerous takeaways and curry houses on the Shirley section of the Stratford Road, as the Darjeeling's name suggests, they serve Indian cuisine. With Karma Restaurant providing its sit down competition, whilst a takeaway rivalry comes in the form of Ashiana, the Darjeeling has its work cut out to establish itself as a cut above the rest. The prices are very similar to its competitors, around £5-£6 on mains, and they offer 10% off takeaways if you collect them yourself, an incentive that I don't believe the other curry houses in the immediate vicinity offer. Having eaten there and at the Karma several times, I find it very difficult to set them apart. In terms of food price and quality, they're virtually identical, although the Darjeeling has a slightly wider range of dishes, so it may come down to personal preference and if they are able to cater to your wants better than the Karma. I personally prefer the Darjeeling for eating in, as although the Karma is slightly more spacious, the Darjeeling has more character, with decorations and a nice fish tank. Overall, I'd recommend heading down yourself, checking out the respective menus, and seeing which establishment you'd prefer to eat in. Both are fine choices.
Very good food and friendly, attentive staff. Nice, small comfortable Indian style restaurant.
Food is brilliant as ever. Love their chicken tikka biryani. Ive been coming here for years .
