I've seen quite a few changes at the Walters over the last 2 years and the main is that the food menu has changed to cater more towards the restaurant crowd rather than pub food. Prices have gone up quite a lot since I've been coming here but if it keeps the doors open and the staff employed then that's fine. Staff are generally very friendly and accommodating. Great beer garden(s) and lovely open fires in the winter.
This used to be one of my favourite pubs when I lived in Wokingham, some 10 years ago now. Good car parking, outside seating, bar and dining room inside. The pub, for me has lost some of it's charm and is in need of some refurbishment, although comfortable and with a varied menu, I am sure that most dietary needs would be catered for. Stopped in for early evening dinner midweek.
The Walter Arms is in two buildings, the barn and the restaurant. We firstly we went Into the barn and then directed to the restaurant. It was not too busy and we where directed to a table, the table had a big stand and it was awkward to place your feet on the floor. Our waitress straight over and gave us a bottle of water then left us for a few minutes before coming back and taking our drinks order. We asked what the specials were but they did not have any so we opted for the pie of the day and there was steak and ale and chicken ham mushroom so we had one of each and they where very good plenty of fillings. The downside of the evening was the speed of the service after getting our meals we had to ask for the desert menu that came quickly but they never came back to take to ask if we wanted our order we then asked for the bill and it came to us very quickly as if they wanted us to leave as they want to close but it was only about 8.45.
But all of the staff where very pleasent
