Great pub with a great atmosphere! The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. We came on a Sunday and didn't order a table (the nibble section of the menu is not available on a Sunday) and we ordered the crispy beef salad and a burger which was great.
Date night with the wife.
I was looking for somewhere local I had never been, which did food I could eat. I'm off carbs and sugar... for my diabetes type 2.
I've lived here forever but I had never had reason to come in before.
So reading the menu meat it was then. Realised they had cheese pie which is a real crowd pleaser for the wife.
Parked up right outside, which was good.
There isn't much parking at the pub so be warned.
Went in around 7 on a Friday night and it was busy. The service was...slow.
I'm off beer as well as sugar, so tried the Brooklyn lager...and it was really good. If less than ideal 2g sugar / 100ml.
Managed to drink 2 bottles before we got our order in.
Specials are blah blah blah...sorry no cheese pie... Damn it there go my brownie points.
So we ordered one special starter and one off the main, and two main courses. Black pudding scotch eggs, and cod balls. Fish n Chips and Mixed Grill no chips.
5 mins later no Black pud scotch eggs...can we have the brie...5 mins later...yup no brie.
Hmm
We both had the cod balls.
Absolutely starving when they arrived. 30 minutes after we arrived.
Good job they were fabulously good.
Sadly I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture.
Perfect crust on them, lots of fish and only a bit of potato (hmm didn't say that on the menu).
A further relaxed 30 minute wait followed for our main course.
My meal was fine. Not the best ever, I had opted out of the chips, and it came without much salad. Which I would normally have expected to be there. Almost looked like they had left room for it on my plate but forgot to serve it. Though to be fair that's probably where the chips would go.
The fish was really great for the wife and her chips were yummy. Stole one shh don't tell the diabetes.
The atmosphere was good, all the people were friendly, it was just a bit slow.
All in all I will go back though perhaps pick a steak next time, and ask for some salad with it.
A lovely pub with a decent menu. Dog friendly also. The drive here from any direction is stunning, snow on the hills made it all the more special today. I had a decent salt and pepper chicken burger, my wife, the cheese and onion pie. We were warned about the wait for the pie but my wife thought it was well worth while, was lovely and fresh, buttery short crust pastry. Service was a tad slow in that we were asked if we wanted sauces, then had to remind the chap 10 minutes later by which time we were half way through our meal. The chips (they offered fries also) were home made and chunky, perfect with plenty of salt and vinegar 😊
