I went to Tunbridge Wells for a couple business meetings and stayed at the Hotel du Vin . A lovely grade II listing mansion built in 1762. I quickly remembered the great BdV burger I had in their now closed bistro in London
We decided to try the taste du vin menu which was excellent value, 5 courses with wine pairings for £55 per person and brilliant that this is offered all week, not just off peak times. The wines matched perfectly and the food was delicious. It would be good to offer more variety as most courses were bread based - perhaps a rice/grain/pasta option and more picky eaters might appreciate a choice of 2 dishes for each course (there were vegetarian and vegan options but not sure how this worked with the minimum 2 people dining). I really enjoyed my meal though. Service from the new staff member Patricia was especially good, she was chatty and informative without being overbearing and made sure everyone in her section was well looked after. Also whoever made the espresso martinis we had before the meal gets 5 stars from me. The restaurant was empty when we arrived due to some cancellations so we worried it might be too quiet and stuffy, but it filled up later in the evening without getting too loud.
We enjoyed our Sunday lunch here yesterday. Service was friendly, generous portions and excellent value (3 courses for less that £30). Only slight criticism is that the dining room could do with a bit a revamp so it feels a bit smarter but would definitely return!
