Everyone needs to go here at least once in their lifetime! It is beautiful, tranquil and interesting. We visit monthly as we live nearby. Entrance is included in National Trust membership. On Saturdays in October you can visit in the dark and experience the amazing abbey by floodlight. You can easily spend a whole day here. Dogs are allowed. There is an on site cafe and gift shop. Lots of photo opportunities. Lots of places for a picnic and bird watching. There is a weekly park run. Extensive children’s play area.
Expensive (£45 for 2 adults and 1child), but impressive. Very nice grounds, interesting things to see, and the huge abbey ruins.
Lacks a museum with plenty of info and history: the visitor centre is very large but really only a shop, tickets, and toilets. Coverage of the history and background in detail would have been appreciated.
Unlikely to revisit due to high entry fee.
Wow. What a fabulous place. Beautifully maintained and accessible to everyone. A world heritage site no less. Lovely restaurant and coffee shops, One thing always puzzles me. The monks lived and prayed waiting for a voice from God to answer, yet all around, in myriad voices of nature in this beautiful place he was speaking to them, yet they heard him not.
