If you'd have been in Ramsbottom a few Sundays ago you might have seen food critic Jay Rayner return to Levanter to get his promised Basque steak which you first heard about on here way back in July. I went back too, to Baratxuri again, just round the corner to take some more food related photos for Fiona & Joe (see the initial preview here). This time I had precious daylight, just before the clocks changed to plunge us all into gloom. When winter returns, I always try to remember we still have lovely, joyful restaurants like this to cheer us up. There's so much colour in these photos I though it was a shame not to share them on here.
I've always wondered why nobody has opened a proper Basque Pintxos Bar in the North. With the popularity of tapas you'd have thought that this was the next obvious step. Pintxos are essentially small snacks, often (but not always) literally 'spiked' onto a piece of bread. It's also not a million miles away from the YO! Sushi concept. You pay at the end with your little pile of sticks rather than your plates. So it's a bit like a buffet too and we all love a buffet.
