As we are always looking for new eateries, came across the hungry duck as it came highly recommended.
A small little bistro on the main street of Ramsbottom, it's a cosy little place but never felt claustrophobic. The service was very good and the staff atentative.
Set meal for 2 courses is £18 so they have set the pricing about right, £22 gets you desert too.
Onto the food!
My wood pigeon (locally shot, had a piece of shot to prove it) with black pudding and beetroot was perfectly cooked, pink and gamey. The red wine sauce and rhubarb coulis a perfect match. Sues mushroom risotto rich and creamy dotted with brie it was rich and comforting.
The sea bream with spinach mash potatoes, tender stem broccoli was light and flavourful, the added goats cheese adding another dimension.
Sue went simple, a huge baked onion and Cheshire cheese pie with a side salad. Of course I had to finish it, by hell the pastry was some of the best I've tasted and full to the brim with melting cheese.
Looking around the deserts looked nice, but we had our fill. ........ next time maybe
First visit today for my mothers birthday. Can't praise it enough. Being vegetarian and usually struggling to find anything appealing on the menu was pleasantly surprised to find things that exceeded my expectations. Defo would recommend and can't wait to visit again. New fav place. Staff very welcoming.
Amazing food in a cute restaurant, really blown away by the quality of the meals and the thoughtfulness in putting it together. Liked it so much we went back for breakfast which again was fantastic.
