The very first time we came, a few years ago now, we said it was as good as Rick Stein’s. Never anything less than good in our other visits last night was stunningly good. Fresh crab and scallops as starters, fresh, delicious and a perfect portion size.
Mains were the hake and halibut (boy, that must have been a big fish as my portion was a generous fillet across the fish). Cooked ‘to the point’ with the local potatoes that are excellent in their own right.
And we’re already booked for next week. As far as fish is concerned, you’ve ‘brought it home’.
The fish is the star of the show here. We have eaten there twice this week and both meals were great. The fish and chips is wonderful with the best lightest crisp batter ever. Portions are huge so make sure you are hungry. Porthgain crab starter was fresh and tasty with a good lime mayonnaise and tomato concasse. The monkfish and prawn Thai curry had a terrific flavour and was accompanied by a mixture of wild rice varieties that was excellent. Desserts are good but don't miss the walnut and Welsh Whisky tart with cream. It is to die for and people ring up to reserve it! Lovely friendly staff who run up and down the stairs a million times so please leave a gratuity for them. It's a great place to eat just make sure you book to avoid disappointment.

We had the very great pleasure of visiting The Shed in Porthgain, Pembrokeshire this evening for the Best Fish and Chips I have ever tasted. We tried to get a table last year but the restaurant was fully booked on the day that we chose to visit. But this time we booked and we were well rewarded.
The cod was HUGE, the chips were lovely and crisp and were served with some beautiful garden peas and some really lovely tartare sauce. The Cod tasted really good and was cooked to perfection, lovely and flaky and so tender. YUM YUM.....!!! It was sooooo good.
And all served by a lady called Ffion and a lovely guy with dark curly hair. Don't know his name. The only trouble was the fish was so big I couldn't possibly eat it all, so my husband took the plate to the counter to ask if we could have a doggy bag, so Ayesha (our Afghan Hound) could have a treat too.
The guys at the desk looked a bit horrified when the saw my husband walking towards them with the plate because they thought there was something wrong with the meal. They were somewhat relived to hear he just wanted a doggy bag so we could take the fish home for our dog lol.
But I say this sincerely, the food and the restaurant and staff were all fabulous and well worth the visit.
