Tick tock is a small family run cafe just off the Cowley roundabout - a cheap and cheerful option for breakfast, lunch sandwiches or a tea break. Walk in and you can locate a clock with the time for almost any country that comes to mind! The vegetarian breakfast is very filling, albeit a little on the unhealthy side with most of it being fried. The brownie's are worth trying. The service has always been warm and friendly.
Tick Tock Cafe - Oxford, England. Tick Tock Cafe stands brightly coloured and inviting to all potential diners on the start of Cowley Road. A cheap place - especially as far as Oxford goes - for a meal and a filling one at that. The real question is, is it worth going to? It delivers what it promises for food.
Inside is lively with brightly coloured booths in some parts, awfully comfortable as well. All around the place are various clocks as decorations (hence the name of "Tick Tock" and all of them on different times but not functional). It was fun looking at the different faces while waiting. There is a bit of space - you are not quite packed like a sardine in there.
The service here was very friendly. The waitstaff that owned the place were often smiley and gave off such an authentically warm vibe. I was not charged for an extra that I requested on my meal.
One thing that I wanted to try while I was in England was the full English breakfast - the whole shebang including black pudding (the aforementioned, uncharged extra). On the side I asked for a double shot cappuccino
It is safe to say that the full English breakfast was good in all of its components - bacon, medium-fried eggs, sausages, hashbrowns, tomato, baked beans, mushrooms and the black pudding. All of the where what you would expect them to be. The mushrooms were cooked at an agreeable time, they started to flourish their distinct taste but still maintained a texture. The hashbrowns were extraordinary with a big coating and crunch to them. Black pudding is often not many peoples forte, but I quite liked it. To discribe the taste and texture the closest comparison I can think of is falafel. If you do not think about what black pudding (Google if interested) is, it is actually quite good.
There was a sprinkling of something quite pleasant on the cappuccino that I could not quite put my finger on - I unfortunately forgot to ask them, damn! I also quite liked that there was more of a cream topping than frothed milk as well.
I quite liked Tick Tock Cafe. Many would pass it up as another greasy spoon place, but they did their meals to what the meals should be and the meals were very well done as what they are. Very affordable and great value, I will like to return here again.
Such a nice, many ticks to the tocks. Such time awareness many clocks, remind of Coldplay. Much breakfast, very such English breaking the fasting of the morning with fresh juices of the orange. Over joy happy feeling on the tummy side. Such recommend, everybody together feeling such amazing, mega wow! Hashbrownies with no chocolate and less brown. Many toasty, toast tost.
