The Fox Inn is a local pub serving traditional and modern pub food in nice settings in the Oxford residential district of Boars Hill. To start, I had some of the olives and the spices popcorn. While the olives were run-of-the-mill, the popcorn was sweet, spicy, and, well, perfect; they serve it at the bar, so just ask. For my main course, I ordered fish and chips. The fish was perfectly crispy and beer-battered so that, when picked up, it would not snap, and when subjected to the steam arising from just-fried chips, it would not get soggy. The mushy peas served with the fish were just how I like them, if not under-salted. The chips were just alright (soggy). The tartar sauce also tasted alright. If I'm the area, I might visit again.
Really great to see this pub turned around by the new folks running it. Warm and welcoming, family and dog friendly and the food is good too. Was pretty busy for Sunday lunch so recommend booking in advance over the weekend. We had Sunday roasts with all the trimmings; beef, pork and lamb roasts respectively and all were delicious. Only dish that didn't work so well for us was the kids tomato meatballs which was a bit too heavy on the chilli but we shared our food around and everyone got plenty to eat that they enjoyed; kids and adults alike. Definitely recommend this as a stop for a meal or a drink if you're walking on Boars Hill. The unicorn hot chocolate is something else!!
Very pleasantly surprised when we came here for lunch. The atmosphere was good and friendly, and there was a wide choice of food and also their lunchtime special which also available on a Sunday. Food was certainly good quality and tasty. The specials board also looked extremely tasty. Service was slightly on the slow side, partly due to it being so busy, but since we weren't in a hurry, it was ok.
