I was staying at Somerville college and G&Ds was right there to save me from all the break between meals! I'd go there ALL THE TIME. I miss how fresh and tasty their waffles were and their salad and ice cream and everything that I tried. ❤️
G&Ds (George & Davis) - Oxford, England. The first shop of G&Ds to open up, George & Davis - as well as the other locations - is an ice cream cafe in Oxford. This was very unique when it first opened up filling in a niche. At any time of the day, this hub is extensively popular. Upon trying the ice cream I could easily see why.
I have been to many ice cream parlours and the service here is much better than most. They are very quick, quite patient and friendly.
As far as the George & Davis branch goes, it is akin to a mini diner. There is a mix of simple furniture (often high, for a short man like myself I have to hoist myself up and down) and characteristic decorations. It feels relaxed and fun in comparrison to the pubs around the place.
I had been told about their "Cookie Monsters" which are a choice of an ice cream scoop (from a frequently rotating array) sandwiched between two of a choice of cookie. If that sounds like heaven - it is.
Going here after dinner with my dining buddy. we both got a Cookie Monster, mine blueberry icecream on Double Chocolate and my dining buddy brown bread on Ginger, Oatmeal & Raisin. The brown bread was a surprise; it was akin to bread & butter pudding and actually delicious.
The Cookie Monster is very robust and is a challenge to get through. Both component combine very well and it is certainly recommended to try it.
The Cookie Monster is just one of the items on the menu at George & Davis, but even if it was the only item there I would love to go back many times.
Probably the best ice cream in Oxford! We went for mango sorbet and yoghurt ice cream which were both really yummy! Creamy texture, not overly sweet.
I'd recommend takeaway so you're not tempted to go for a second one ;)
