Cosy place with great atmosphere that's perfect for couples. They're charging higher end prices though and the food had a few snags considering this (and considering its number one on trip advisor!).
I had the trout which was undercooked and served alongside a chutney which completely overpowered it's delicate flavor. Dish needs a re-think.
The wine list is extensive, especially considering the food menu is one side of A5! But the red section lacked something lighter/low tannin, no pinot noir, no gamay.
Worth a trip, just not a special trip. Ranking of number 1 in manchester is not appropriate.
My boyfriend and I booked a table for 8pm last night, but arrived slightly earlier at 7.50pm. We were seated and told that they were running 15 minutes behind schedule, which is fair enough on a busy Saturday night, and that a barman would arrive shortly to take our drinks order. After half an hour of waiting we got up and asked for service, staff were apologetic and lovely, and our cocktails arrived quickly after. We ordered the 7 course meal, but unfortunately we were only served 6 out of 7 courses. The food though was absolutely incredible! Each plate is quite small, which is just as well with how many there are and how rich the food is, and the presentation of each dish was beautiful. The staff explained what each dish was, and despite the few hiccups we had during the evening, I can't fault their service at all, as they were all lovely, very polite and apologetic. I think it was just an unfortunate night to have booked as they had new staff and were down a staff member too. As compensation we were given 2 free cocktails and charged for a 5 course meal, and not the 7 course. Despite the night not running as smoothly as it could, I would be happy to go again, and really enjoyed our meal.
Excellent service and quality food. For starters, I had cauliflower filled potato skins and for mains, a fillet of brill with fennel. The former was delicious, the cauliflower filling barely tasted of cauliflower, and was thick and flavoursome. The latter was cooked well, I rarely cook fennel but the flavour was excellent. The brill was cooked well, but a quite bland. The portion size of the mains is rather small, but thankfully they serve a bowl of smoky, seasoned roast potatoes on the side, which made it more substantial. Service is fantastic - friendly and attentive. Finally, there's a mini golf course and golf simulator in the restaurant! Very fun if you're good at golf, a little frustrating if you're not!
