The Cleave continues to dish up seriously good food in this pretty village tucked away down a narrow lane off the main road between Bovey Tracey and Moretonhampstead. You’re advised to book a table if you want to dine in the pub’s cosy interior but on sunny days there is plenty of room in the beer garden. A warm welcome and helpful service help to make this a highly enjoyable experience.
There are lots of good things to be said about this quaint country pub. We were there for lunch with a car group of 12 and had been asked to send our orders for main meals in advance. There was a good, but limited choice however the choices and prices on the website menu did not reflect the menu presented at the table. Orders for starters and drinks were taken promptly and we were not waiting long for them to arrive as the pub was not particularly busy. Everyone remarked on the quality of the food which was freshly cooked with a nice selection of vegetables. If you have a good appetite you will not be disappointed. Service was efficient and friendly, they are keen for you to be happy with the food and nothing was too much trouble.
Beautiful old inn in the lovely village of Lustleigh. Had a nice little wander round the village before lunch, then an excellent pint of Otter and a veggie lasagne in the garden. Bar staff were really friendly and it was so peaceful. I'm slowly working my way around the pubs of Dartmoor and this is up there with the best!
Oh and a kind local complimented us on our well-behaved children which is always nice!
Only thing to note is that most of the routes to the village are typical Dartmoor lanes, not for those concerned about brambles against their cars (if you're heading to North Bovey afterwards, go back towards the main road and ignore your SatNav, speaking from experience!).
