Authentic Ethiopian restaurant! Traditional plate offers an interesting palette of flavours and spices. The portion is huge, excellent for sharing and I really loved the fact that you can eat with your hands. We also tried their spicy lamb bowl, but we found the meat quite hard to chew and rather too salty. Honey wine is a must to try👍
We had a wonderful time at Gebeta Ethiopian Kitchen. Never having eaten Ethiopian food before we didn't know what to expect, and what we were presented with was a fabulous plate of colours and flavours. I had the vegan combo and my husband had one with meat. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is also lovely and colourful with great music playing. The service was also great.
Practical take on Ethiopian cuisine, first time I found an egg in an Ethiopian platter. Food was very tasty, injera also remarkable because it didn't break too easily (ask for it, they may assume you prefer rice). Portions are not excessive, in other restaurants you cannot finish your plate, possibly causing food waste.
Notes:
- £20 Gebeta special is 60-70% vegetable mix and rest is meat, I would expect the opposite. If you are a meat lover go for a meat main course.
- Food is generally reheated which is actually a good idea for stews that gain extra flavours by resting. Plus service is fast, in other restaurants you may have to wait 15-20 minutes to get bland food
- prices are a little higher than competitors but Leather Lane is a popular destination and it is close to wealthy legal and jewellery districts, business costs will be higher than in zone2
