🚇 Rectory Road
🍺 £5.70 Amstel
❤️ A traditional boozer, big on sports.
.
The Yucatan Bar is located on the corner of busy Stoke Newington Road and Walford Road in the heart on N16. The nearest station is Rectory Road Overground which is a ten minute stroll away.
.
This pub was built in 1867 and started life as The Walford. In recent years the pub changed its name to the Yucatan Bar, you’ll be pleased to know there was no mariachi band serenading punters.
.
This is a good size pub which has retained some original features. There is this beautiful centre piece with ornate columns, mirrors, etched glass and vitreous panels with lettering advertising the pub's fayre plus the pubs original name. On the right, is the dark wood clad servey which extends down most of the length of the bar. At the back of the bar are a couple of pool tables and a dartboard.
.
The beer line up was full of mainstream brands all of which are keg. For stout lovers, the Guinness here gets rave reviews. As I was on a crawl, I took it easy and ordered a pint of Amstel, my pint was ok and price point was reasonable. There is no food menu available, more Tayto’s than Tacos.
.
I visited around 2pm on a Friday afternoon with my Brother and Nephew as part of a St Patrick’s Day crawl around the area. On arrival, there were a few in dotted around the bar, we were served quick enough by who seemed to be the Guv’nor, nice enough chap. We sat in the window to catch a bit of Cheltenham and watch are nags come absolutely nowhere. The atmosphere was relaxed and chilled, there was a nice vibe to the place. There are loads of screens here, this place is well known locally for being a great place for watching live sport, this place can get proper lively when games are on.
.
The Yucatan was a good visit and I loved the original pub features that thankfully have been retained. Part of me wishes that I visited this pub in its heyday, to see it in its full glory. Overall, the beer was reasonably priced, atmosphere was welcoming and this is a great place to watch sport. Well worth a look.

Great pub for sports. Very friendly, love this place. The owner is a larger than life Dublin man that always puts Phil Collins on the jukebox when I come in cos he knows I'm not a fan :-) fully recommend this place for a few pints
