I have been told to go to this place numerous times by an ex-colleague and I always tried but forgot.
I finally went and I am so glad I did, it is a baby of the famous Vanilla Black, the vegetarian restaurant near Chancery Lane. I don't know if it affects it at all, but the coffee beans they use are amazing, there is usually no one in the place, so getting served straight is the norm, they take card but I usually pay by cash.
I am a massive fan of this place now, and probably top 3 coffees I've had in London.
The latest offshoot (barely even a bud) from Vanilla Black/The Orchard, so the food is all good quality, lots of emphasis on homemade, all vegetarian, all leaning towards the hearty side with a bit of posh (optional truffle oil on a cauliflower soup, for example). The best deals are the soup-and-sandwich lunch—the soups are always very nice and the sandwiches are very substantial, enough so that I couldn't actually finish mine at lunch and it kept me going through the afternoon.
Good cakes and biscuits as well, all a bit special.
A strange little place. Slightly battered but charming look with walls papered with old cooking and (what looked like) Dilbert comics. Good soup + salad lunch combos.
