Hard to Find, but worth it.... As far a lunch time places go around mayfair its usually the same, Cafe Delis, chain stores, the odd supermarket... pretty same old same old.
I came across this place on a recommendation from a college at work. And after visiting I wasn't disappointed. Hidden down a side street not far from St James square I walked in and read the instructions on how to order. It quite simply is, pick a meat, pick a sandwich, box, and so on, and layer it up with other bits. Sounds like a subway does it not? Yes except one big difference. The meat is freshly roasted chicken, beef, turkey and ham, the other bits are potatoes, mash, carrots, peas, Yorkshire pudding, gravy.... in a nut shell, this place will sell you a roast dinner in a sandwich!
Inspired? Nuts? Bad for you cholesterol? Oh yes. but my god, my chicken roast sandwich with mash potato, peas, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, cranberry sauce and gravy was the single most over indulgent lunch I have ever eaten.
I guarantee you, after that sandwich, you wont want anything else to eat, so for £5.20 with a coke, its pure gastronomic overload.
I loved it and will be going back there again.
i have to confess that i have an inane addiction to fuzzy's grub breakfast. over the last couple of days i have been unable to do a packed breakfast and inevitably find myself at fuzzy's for a morning fuel. there are three things that i particularly love
Oh! Fuzzy’s Grub! Cannot eat better than this for the price.
For breakfast, there’s the egg plus sandwiches, all around £3, large porridge for £2, pastries, and the best toast in town for £1.20. Awesome tea, coffees, chocolates, smoothies, etc.
At lunch, there’s the traditional roasts: topside of beef, leg of lamb, loin of pork, turkey breast, chicken breast. With, you can have all or any of the following: Yorkshire pudding, roast or mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, sage and onion stuffing, crackling and gravy. Go to town. All for £5.50
There’s also pies: chicken, cottage, steak and mushroom. And bangers & mash.
If you want salad, you don’t pay by ingredient. Choose all or any, add a meat and enjoy for £3.85 small or £5.85 huge. Vegetarian salads £1 less.
Sandwiches are £4.95.
Only open for breakfast and lunch and most don’t have seating. But they are typically very near a park or square where you can sit & people watch, which definitely adds to your meal. For example, for the Fleet St. branch, you can sit in St. Paul’s churchyard or in the gardens of the Inns of Court. Several locations around town, all with the same superb quality. Most close at 4:30 so suitable for a very early dinner too.
Enjoy!
