If you want to try the fusion of thai and Indian, try this place. Their Dal/currey and lamb are too good.. Do not forgot to try the Chutney they provide with Samosa.
I am quite a regular visitor of this place whenever i am in London.. Not all food here taste that good, but I know what to order here and they are best in that..
Only issue here is seating not good and too much of rush during lunch time..
After hearing great stories about this hidden gem and its long lunchtime queues, one friday afternoon I decided it was about time I discovered what this place had to offer.
I was expecting a full house at the restaurant with huge queues so it was quite a surprise when the place wasn't as busy, especially for the takeaway. But then again, I visited the place at 1.30ish so might have just missed the rush.
To keep things nice and simple, the main courses are all priced at £5. I chose the Matsaman beef curry with a garnish of carrots. The beef was lovely however felt that the carrots garnish spoilt the overall taste so perhaps that wasnt a wise choice. However, portions are very generous. The staff/owners offer a friendly and quick service.
Overall, Mama Thai offers good value of money therefore I am sure I will be back to try their chicken curry soon which is apparently their most popular option.
Both the Thai chicken and beef massaman were pleasant. I’d expected the Thai chicken to be spicier but it was – while nice enough – quite bland, and heavily coated in fresh coriander. Both dishes seemed lacking in a certain depth of flavour and spices. The portion was huge and I found these meat dishes overly filling (too much for me at lunctime, and I’ll adapt accordingly next time).
