Disappointing teppanyaki experience.
After a wonderful dinner at Miyama Mayfair's branch I also had high hopes for their City branch.
As I had never had teppanyaki we opted for the teppanyaki early bird menu at Miyama (only available on weekdays and at their city branch).
The teppanyaki area is quite small (seats 6) so I recommend booking in advance if you are planning to go.
We ordered:
- Assorted sashimi - didn't disappoint. Similar to their Mayfair branch, the sashimi felt like it was melting my my mouth!
- Fresh vegetable salad served with Miyama original dressing - again very good and fresh
- Scottish Beef Fillet Steak - also came with rice, miso soup and two delicious sauces
- Ice cream - The peach and honeycomb flavour was AMAZING.
Don't get me wrong, the food was great and if served anywhere else I wouldn't be disappointed. The chef was lovely, however there was no performance/tricks. He was just cooking in front of us.. As everyone on the table ordered steak, he didn't cook individually for each couple that were dining but for everyone on one table on the far side and then brought the food over to us.
The food was delicious and I still recommend visiting Miyama. However, do not go for the teppanyaki menu if you are expecting a 'show' as you will not be entertained.

5:45 arrived and we jumped back across the street in search of Miyama Restaurant. Earlier we had been confounded when arriving at the address, 17 Godliman Street, where we were greeted by a modern office building with an intercom system and no button for the lower ground floor where the restaurant was listed. Thankfully on our return venture across the road, Natasha spotted the restaurant's sign on the side of the building. That said, when you are coming for dinner, be sure to look out for the restaurant BEFORE you reach 17 Godliman Street but right across the street from Grange St. Paul's Hotel.
Thankfully we were seated immediately downstairs where we poured over the extensive menu and hemmed and hawed about which dishes to order. We ended up deciding on their: California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Negi Hamachi Roll, and Sake Avocado Roll.
The rolls were delicious and we felt the portion was perfect for two to share. And the Monday evening we stepped into their restaurant it was quiet and perfect for a good chat. The prices also were not half bad with 6 rolls ranging from £3.20 to £8.00 and amiable service and immaculate restrooms. Having been without my sushi fix since Easter (back home in California) I was a very happy girl and would happily recommend Miyama Restaurant to anyone looking for a lovely place to indulge in some fresh fish with a good friend or special someone. :)

Food was good and authentic - there are several bento box lunch options and each of them had plenty of food for one.
Service staff were Japanese - they were all courteous and polite. The food was a bit slow being served.
The place is hidden downstairs and can be hard to find. Decor a bit dated.
