I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Korean food, I crave it really badly then I’m always disappointed 🙁. This time we went to Po Cha in Waterloo for dinner and it wasn’t bad at all! I opted for the bibimbap and rice cake and they were both so good. I chose the seafood bibimbap and there was so much squid in it and not enough prawns. Other than that, the stone bowls came in sizzling and the rice was so warm it was delicious. They give you Korean chilli sauce on the side and that’s a game changer, without it, the dish doesn’t taste the same. I’ve now accepted the Korean rice cake dish, tokpokki, is sweet. Every restaurant I’ve been to has always had sweet rice cake, but Po Cha definitely had the better rice cake.
We had a huge spread between the 6 of us so we had the chance to try just about everything. I'd say overall it's a bit above average but nothing special. It's a little tiny restaurant that seats about 30. The atmosphere is good, nice lighting and wood on the walls.
Dumplings and pancakes were excellent. The bibimbaps were quite good. The other dishes such as the fried chicken in sauce were a bit bland. Lovely waiters.
Tasty as little Korean place tucked behind Waterloo.
Bring your own, reasonably priced. Tiny place so don't get your hopes up as there might not be space. If you can squeeze in though, brisk efficient waitresses sort you out with some top notch Asian cuisine. Seafood pancake starter was perfect, followed by a hugely satisfying sweet/salty beef Udon. Portions of a decent size.
Definitely a good pick for evening dinner and the lunch even looks interesting
