Overall a very decent meal, good quality ingredients, right flavours, however somewhat lacking creativity and refinement (my spinach with garlic was way too garlicky) and the wine list could be a bit longer and better. Ok for a pre-theatre meal but I wouldn't go there just for their food. Atmosphere cosy and warm, friendly service.
Vecchio parioli is a lovely unassuming Italian restaurant 🇮🇹. From the exterior it's hard perceive its authenticity - it's on a dark street and can easily be missed. But once you go inside, you feel like you're home ( I used to live in Parioli, in Rome ). For £14.50 you get a three course meal from one of their set menus. The more expensive set menu is £25 pounds which gives you greater choice and a glass of prosecco! The portions are generous and the food is classic Italian. The service is also very friendly, with all the staff being Italian. For me this is a comfy restaurant, perfect for when I miss Parioli and Italian hospitality.
PS. The tiramisu was great!
It is authentic in a rustic way.
For example, the chicken liver soup I ordered is quite like a mama style home soup and it contains a big portion of livers. But it is too large that I felt quite fed up already after this appetizer.
The pasta is Al Dente but seafood coming with it is mediocre or lack of complexity. I still like it, but the flavor could be further improved to contain more elements.
Tiramisu is homemade and quite alcohol heavy in taste.
In sum, a good choice to experience homie cuisine. Maybe not for formal occasion.
