I chose this restaurant for my 50th Birthday celebrations. I am so pleased I did as the atmosphere, staff and food were all 5 star. The staff catered for our every need, they answered all our questions, were accommodating with our younger guests ( a 4 year old and 6 year old ) and the steak was by far the best I have ever eaten and my partner has not stopped raving about the cream caramel dessert. We will definitely be returning. Oh and thank you for my complimentary birthday brandy at the end. Lovely place to eat.
Great atmosphere, fantastic steaks & wine would highly recommend it the staff very
Welcoming, a great place for lunch or dinner
The best fillet steak I’ve ever had in the UK at BAC in Blackheath. Superb food, great service and a very nice bottle of wine too. Will definitely be back.
Amazing staff.... amazing good ! Can not recommend the pizza enough. Best in the UK
Fantastic food, great restaurant and superb atmosphere. Perfect place to eat good steak very well cooked accompanied with good wine. Always enjoy eating here.
What a lovely time we had, great food, wonderful service, music transported us to Argentina, would recommend unless you are vegan/ vegetarian
Very friendly atmosphere, cosy interior, helpful staff and lovely food. I can highly recommend!
Lovely place overlooking the heath, fantastic service and the steak was excellent. Well worth a visit x
We had a great evening the food was first class ,and the staff were very friendly and helpful
Me and my bf love this place steak is gorgeous and the vanilla cheese cake is to die for.
Our favourite place in Blackheath! Staff in lovely and the food fabulous! 👍
Good location, food and atmosphere! British breakfast in here is the best one I've ever had.
I prefer this place to gauchos! It's not quite as expensive and has a lovely atmosphere, staff are really nice and the food and wine is lovely, must have the steak and Malbec!!
The Blackheath branch is our favourite restaurant in London! Been numerous times now and the food, drink and service is always excellent! It feels upmarket but with a very laid back, friendly and comfortable atmosphere.
We came last night for NYE and although there was a little mix up with our steaks, it was swiftly sorted so no harm done there. It was very busy so It's fully understandable that small mistakes can happen.
We will be back very soon! I want to try those delicious looking pizzas.
Excellent good. Good staff and nice atmosphere. They also sang happy birthday to me.
One of the best restaurant around. Fantastic staff and amazing food! Love it!
We had lovely meal, it's more expensive than your average pub but you do get what you pay for here. The quality of the meat is very good for London, we had the fillet and the ribs, and the desserts are very good.
Why Waste Annual Leave?
+4
This Argentinian cafe has been a firm favourite in Blackheath for several years and despite being so close to us, we had never visited for the sole reason that we felt that there was no place for two non beef-eaters in an Argentinian, steak-focused restaurant. But then we remembered that we'd travelled to Argentina and some utterly delicious non-beef food and why should this be any different?
The menu helped to allay our fears by revealing the presence of pizzas (Argentinian pizzas are quite delicious), patas, lamb, chicken, pork options and moer so with more than enough to choose from, we finally made a trip here.
The vibe is informal but sophisticated. It is a family run affair and they want this to be a place where people can enjoy great food in great company without any pretence or fuss. Make no mistake, even on a week night, it was heaving and we saw many people having to leave their names on a waiting list or being turned away so book ahead.
The staff are really friendly and as newbies to the restaurant, they made us feel really welcome and made us feel that they'd love for us to return. The walls are covered in lots of original paparazzi photos, as I believe one of the memebrs of the team used to be a photographer.
On a nice day, the outdoor tables are a lovely place to stop off for a coffee in the daytime with a gorgeous view over the greenery of Blackheath - it is quite hard to believe this is London with so much open space around!
In the afternoons, they have a tempting lunch menu including things like choripan sandwiches and can do takeaway lunches as wel. And if you love dulce de leche products like I do, they have lots of jars of it as well as packets of alfajores to buy. If you're wondering what alfajores are, then they are a traditional Argentine biscuit rather like shortbread and filled with this delicious dulce de leche caramel-like sauce.
But onto the food we ordered that night: we noticed that the portion sizes were huge so we decided to share just one starter between us and opted for the vegetarian goats cheese and onion empanada, wihch brought back so many memories of all the empanadas we tried during our time in Argentina. The trick is all in the pastry and it was perfectly soft with a crisp texture at the corners and a lovely creamy filling. I could have happily eaten another handful of just those!
For main course, we chose between us the slow cooked barbeque pork ribs (which were so tender and the meat just fell off the bone - I really liked the bbq sauce but would have liked a little bit more on the meat, perhaps I'm greedy!) We also ordered the lamb, which again was served medium and every bit as good as we remembered from Argentina.
The nice thing about the meat dishes was the fact that you couuld order any of the sides to come as the accompaniment to your meal. After much deliberation, I chose the humita , which is rather like a traditional Argentine sweetcorn, cheese and olive baked dish - almost tasted like a cheese and sweetcorn omelette. I hadd serious envy at my husband's fries though, which were flavoured with garlic and herbs and had a perfect crsip.
We definitely should have stopped there, especially as I had only managed to eat about half my ribs (and don't worry, they come with a helpful finger bowl on the sie). However, with some tempting choices including Argentine trifle, chocolate cake, crepes, I ultimately chose the dulce de leche bread pudding, which wasn't neraly as heavy as many bread puddings I have tried (though again, I'd have loved a bit more dulce de leche put in and I've happily have swapped that for the whipped cream on the side, which I always feel never adds much to anything - other than wasted calories!)
As we were there for a celebration, they kindly offered us some complimentary limoncello, which was a nice gesture and the staff were genuinely excited when we were able to share our tales of travelling in Argentina with them and we loved hearing their own experiences and descriptions of a city that we had both loved.
They also have a cafe/deli branch in Greenwich, which I am so keen to try for breakfast or coffee one day.
Quite small and personal which is nice. The food is very good, highly recommended.
Excelent. I used to like the owner when he owned the little cafe in Greenwich now he's gone large, and as much as you must admire the food I just hope he isn't getting to long himself now.
Terrific steaks of Argentinian beef but pasta & pizza are great too. Friendly service & kids love it, but very popular locally: you must book.
Blackheath is blessed with two good dining options when it comes to Argentinian steaks (Cau and Buenos Aires). At Buenos Aires the vibe is relaxed and laid back. The meats on offer are excellent and so were the starters we tried.
Fantastic food, fantastic service and a great atmosphere
Blackheath is the restaurant, the cafe is in Greenwich. the restaurant is very good. Argentinian owned with Argentinian beef. fabulous, recommended
Exceptionally good food. Amazing service. Loved the wine glasses. It gave enough space for the wine to breath.
I understand why it's difficult to get a table.
There is a reason why we have been visiting this place for over 10 years. Another successful visit.
A little piece of Buenos Aires in the heart of Blackhealth.
Steaks cooked to perfection, washed down with some lovely red and followed by some lovely deserts
See you again soon
Best steak I've had in London. You can go and have an expensive night or cheaper night, with pizza and wine. And pizza was very good also.
The go to Steak House in South East London. An absolutely delicious meal followed by a choice of sumptuous desserts. Get involved, you won't be disappointed 😋
Incredible food, lovely staff, gorgeous setting. Empanadas were divine, our steak were incredible. Can’t wait to return.
If you like good food I would recommend visiting this place as you won't be disappointed. The service was also of a high standard and I will certainly not hesitate to eat there sometime in the future when in the area.
Great steak, great wine, great service. The food is beautiful, the staffs are always very friendly and nice, very attentive to little details. The place is very cozy and romantic. My Husband and I love the place, we went there for the first time back in 2014 and became regulars :). The food and the service has been consistent through these year.
Top notch experience all round. Fantastic and unique food, tasty and lots of character. The staff were friendly and swift, and the wine was nice!
Probably some of the best steak in London, very attentive and knowledgable staff (recommended an amazing red wine called Tapiz Syrah to go with the steak).
Recommend booking in advance as it always seems pretty busy, not the cheapest, but very reasonably priced for the quality of the food served.
Been several times to this restaurant and I’m never disappointed, always a lovely experience. The fillet steak is to recommend and all the sides order for the table was loved by my family. The waitress that served us is brilliant and she even remember the red wine I liked from last time, Tapiz Syrah- so good!
Simply the best steak in London. Absolutely love this place. Excellent wine choice and steaks to suit all - or if you can't choose have 4 cuts cooked to your taste to share!!
Book to avoid disappointment.
I’ve been here 3 times now. Once with my wife and mum and twice with just my wife (I think these are the only 2 people I ever eat out with come to think).
Each time has been very nice. It’s an Argentinian place so I’ve had the steak as my main each time:
* Ribeye 200g
* Ribeye 400g
* Sirloin 200g
Each time asked for medium rare and each time it was bang on. Service is good and the location probably couldn’t be better.
Slap bang on the edge of Blackheath Common.
My 3 visits were in the summer twice and in the winter once. If the evening is nice, they open the big windows so all tables upstairs get that alfresco feel.
My advice would be to book well in advance. It gets booked up incredibly quickly!
4 stars for the food because the parsley & garlic fries was ever so slightly overlooked; the rib eye was cooked to perfection but the trimming of the steak left something to be desired. The negroni had the wrong ice so the drink diluted in record time. The empanadas and black pudding were faultless. Laura, our Italian waitress, was her usual charming self. The service was attentive but not overbearing. 3 stars for atmosphère because original sitting downstairs was almost morbid. Subsequent outdoor sitting was not well covered by the heaters. Of course, we will be back.
Buenos Aires Café in Blackheath isn't just a restaurant; it's a hidden treasure for wine enthusiasts right here in London. As someone who appreciates a good glass of wine, this café has become my go-to destination for a delightful wine journey paired with authentic Argentine cuisine.
