The Macbeth surprised me. I had known it was a bit of a go-to pub for the indie kids of Hoxton and just assumed it would be a pretty dingy, dark divey kinda place, like the Purple Turtle in Camden.
But it wasn't at all! It was much bigger than I expected, and really quit nice inside, if a little scuzzy around the edges. It had a bit of a gothic feel but not in the vampiric kind of way, more just ornate light fittings. But it was also quite fun with paper lampshades and such all over the place too. I happened to go for a Northern Soul, grrrl riot, indiepop night and it was a lot of fun. It took place downstairs in the main bar, but they have an upstairs room as well.
Being at least halfway up Hoxton Street it isn't the kind of place that gets a lot of passing traffic, but I think this is a good thing as it means it keeps all the ruffians and Essex tourists from stumbling into it. If you're there, you're there because you want to be. And if you're like me, this is the kind of place you'd want to be. Well worth a visit for a gig, or some indie pop, in a cool venue.
I just had an amazing night out with my friends at The Macbeth. I was thrilled to see that the Macbeth is back open again, it's better than ever! I'm so happy the new owners managed to save this venue, I always loved! There were amazing bands, the drinks are very well priced and the atmosphere was great! I'm definitely coming back!
An English pub/cocktail bar lots of live music, some of the best staff in London. The two ladies behind the bar so friendly it made me at home here. The drinks were good price , very clean glasses and served with a smile 😊 great music and live bands at weekends 💃🕺
