There is always great debate about where you can find the best kebabs in any town in the UK but I am here to tell you that the best in the country is Capital kebab (or new capital kebab) in London near the turnpike lane stop on the Piccadilly line.
The only reason this doesn't get 5 bottles is because it is a kebab shop and I just couldn't go overboard. BUT if you doubt my veracity, let me tell you that I go to this place whenever I am in or around London and if I am around for a longer period, I go several times over the course of a few days. So far this place seems also to be liked by other people I have recommended it to and even my sister who keeps trying to not get me to go and get them actually is happy to have them for dinner on a regular basis.
So I get the lamb doner and have it packed up to eat at home. If you are doing a takeaway, you should do what I do and ask them to pack the meat into the pitta in a separate box from the salad and sauces. You MUST heat the bread and meat; otherwise it will feel fatty and disgusting. They have red cabbage, onions, pickled chilies, lettuce, tomatoes, olives and cucumbers. I usually only get the first three and again, in a separate box. Then I go heavy on the garlic sauce and chili sauce both in their own pots.
When I get home, I heat the meat and pitta and then put on the salad and slather on the sauces. Both are amazing and when you sit down to get the perfect bite of meat, pitta, salad and sauces. Be ready to be transported to heaven.
Now I am convinced (and I think this is true) that the meat on the doners are all done in the same warehouse so the meats in most places isn't different. This has the right amount of spices and fat and when slicing off the rotating vertical grill they usually get some nice reddened pieces. Trust me, the more browned the meat is, the tastier it will be.
The sauces are really what set this apart. The garlic sauce is creamy and has herbs but isn't too garlicky. The chili sauce is a tomato chili sauce that has just the right amount of heat.
I have to also admit that the red cabbage is actually quite nice on the whole sandwich.
All in all, definitely one of the best kebabs in the country!
I have been eating at this place since my UNI days and its remained the same. Not cheap anymore, but after a drinking night out still can rely on the Lamb Doner here to hit the spot. Keep it going guys easy on the pricing or you will loss customer. I only get the Lamb Doner here after alcohol intake no salad. Guys you may lose your trade mark cheap and tasty Turnpike Capital
I have been buying Kabab from this place since late 80's, over the years the business had changed hands many times but food has been consistent. But on my last visit I was going salads which contained lost of water which spoiled the Kabab and made it cold. ☹️
