Our venue therefore is a mere 20m down the road from The Gorringe on Mitcham Road. There's bold signage welcoming you in to the cosy restaurant. We pass the interestingly decorated dining booths along one side to a larger area at the back where 11 CURRYBONDers take their seats, eagerly awaiting the feast to come.

Venue Score - 7.3/10.

Everything is beautifully presented and we get the 'doms in quick smart. There are a lovely selection of chutneys and accompaniments to sample, good start.
With Bhaji's on the menu we line up enough for all to sample. They come in the crunchy ball style which tasted good but we're a little dense and clawing in the middle. Not bad but only deserving of a Bhaji score - 7/10.

With a horde of CURRYBONDers I won't go George R R Martin and spend the next 400 words explaining each course in elaborate detail. Suffice to say we ordered a whole bunch of curries, naans and rice. It all looked delicious with some splendid balti dishes and some excellent sculpted carrot. Overall the flavours were good, it was relatively mild, a little greasy but all pretty tasty. The Chicken Tikka Masala was surprisingly sweet but nice and creamy.

Food Score - 7.9/10.

Cobras were on offer and it's not long before the table is littered with empty vessels suffused with the essence of lager. This certainly adds to the bill which comes in at £196.90 which is £19.69/CURRYBONDer. So on the pricier end of the range, but we certainly don't feel overcharged.

Value Score - 7.2/10.

Especially when not only do we get another plate of after 8s but all the female CURRYBONDers are presented with a single red rose, nice touch Samrat!

Overall Score - 7.7/10.

Good tandoori food. I decided to try Samrat after reading positive reviews. The fact that it had a tandoori oven to boot filled me with anticipation. I enjoyed the very "Indian" decor, with individual booths. I tried the murghi masala and tarka dhal along with plain rice and a naan. Although tasty, the colour of the murghi masala sauce deterred me a little but the tarka dhal and naan were both excellent.

The waiters were very attentive but almost a little desperate to ensure my return. The TV was also on quite loudly in the background so I asked them to turn it down, which they did willingly. I look forward to trying more of their lovely dishes.

The 'Rat. There are many purveyors of fine curried food-stuffs in Tooting, indeed there are literally hundreds within London. However, the Samrat is probably the finest of them all.
The decor is lush, the staff polite and the bhangra music is soothing.
Possibly the finest dishes on the menu are the CTM (Chicken Tikka Masala) and the Chef's Special Butterrr Chicken. All main dishes can be ordered with Long-Grain Potato Rice if standard Pilau Rice is not to your liking. Prices are reasonable considering the high quality of the food.

Highly recommended.

3 x Chefs & a Mixologist out for the night. Poppadoms. Starters . Mains. All fantastic. Service was good the single waiter looked after us very well. The food was of generous portions. The food was also tasty and flavoursome. It is now a BYO. It's well worth a visit.

Haven’t been to Samrat for at least 20 years, visited because of Eat Out to Help Out. Really friendly atmosphere and families with children were very welcome, food was spot on. King Prawn Bhuna with Nans was excellent. Tandoori dishes perfect, bring your own alcohol was also a bonus. Definitely will come back

The choice of curries is extensive and goes beyond the standard picks. The starters are large portions so bare that in mind. The onion bhaji is only £2.50 but you get three massive bhajis! The chutneys with the poppadoms are great and everything comes out hot. I'd definitely eat here again.

There can be a bit of a wait on a Saturday (we waited half an hour between arriving and having our meal arrive), but the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is great. The food is entirely worth the wait (which really isn't that long when you think how long it takes to actually cook meals) and the poppadoms and chutneys are a great filler of time. Portion sizes are good for sharing, and we got a shared starter, two mains and two naans for just over £31. The quality of the take away menu is just as good as the in-house offerings and takes almost the same amount of time.
