One of the nicest pubs in Highgate village - went here on a Sunday and it was a nice cosy atmosphere. The roast dinners looked lovely but opted for fish and chips which did the trick. Nice Gastro pub so you do pay a little more.
Handsome pub. We ordered some small dishes, and I was surprised by how good the food was. I had chargrilled smoked chicken wings with ginger ale ketchup and a side salad of watercress and parmesan.
Chicken wings with grill marks were lovely, with just a little drizzle of the sweet sauce. At first I thought pricing was a bit steep for 5 wings, according to the menu. But each wing was complete with both a flat and drummette so it was actually a really good portion for £5.50.
Care had been taken with the side salad. Watercress, thick shavings of parmesan, dressed in good quality balsamico (thick and unctuous) instead of vinaigrette. Light and refreshing.
My companion was less pleased with his order of vegetable croquettes. They were tasty, but did not arrive piping hot.
Went to the Angel this evening as it has become my preferred local. All staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is ideal…. you can hear yourselves talk!
The food served at the tables has always been very good love their sausage and mash. This evening sampled their new line in take out fish and chips I believe available until almost closing time but correct me if I am wrong.
Very well thought out and nicely packaged, mostly recyclable , little pots of tartar, ketchup, mayonnaise, vinegar and mushy peas.
Opening the box to see a good size piece of cod, lightly battered and a decent portion of chips as well. Thoroughly enjoyed after a few pints and a refreshing change from the normal go to of pizza burger or KFC. Well done the Angel keep it up. Give it a try. V
