I confess, prior to discovering Tex Bites, I used to drive through Leytonstone very fast, with my car windows up and my doors locked. I still really cannot think of any other reason to stop off in Leytonstone other than to eat at Tex Bites (just kidding...).
Tex Bites was a surprise hit that I stumbled upon late one night, when I suddenly got the munchies when passing by. Admittedly, I do not know the area very well and I had not previously heard of any good eateries in the area. So, it was a welcome revelation to discover Tex Bites and its Fried Chicken. I have deliberately gone on many a detour just to eat there ever since! It has turned into a guilty pleasure of mine and I am embarrassed that it has taken me this long to write a review.
At Tex Bites, the Fried Chicken simply tastes great. It is always crunchy on the outside, moist inside, somehow not oily at all and always very flavoursome. I am not really a big Fried Chicken fan, as I dislike how oily and unhealthy it usually is, but both the Large Chicken Pieces and the Chicken Wings at Tex Bites are an exception and a must try.
However, there are a few caveats! Be prepared to wait for your food - sometimes a long time. Most of the food is cooked to order. Although this results in better tasting fast-food, it is not exactly, er..., fast. I usually find a 15 to 20 minute wait for the Fried Chicken, although the Burgers are usually ready in 5 minutes. Their Burgers are generally poor. The 'Mexicana' and the 'Mini-Fillet' Burgers are the better ones but are average at best. Also, the Crinkly Fries are relatively flavourless and nothing special, the BBQ Beans are never in stock and you should never try the coleslaw! If the management sorted out these issues and provided better quality condiments and drinks, this place would easily score higher. One should also ignore the 'Grilled Peri Chicken - Coming Soon' sign - it has been there for 2 years and is still coming!
Anyway, all is forgiven when you bite into their Fried Chicken....damn, it really is that good. I suddenly find myself planning my next Tex Bites detour!

Mini Fillet Burger: £2.50 | So I went to Tex Bites in Leytonstone with the cousin sisters. We ordered a mini fillet burger each. Though it's called a burger, it actually looked and tasted like a sub from Subway. Anyway in terms of taste, it was the best mini fillet burger ever! I absolutely loved it! Tasted amazinggg! The fillet was crispy and flavoursome. The bun, though not toasted, was served hot and soft. The whole thing together was just so delicious! Foodie.007 x
