Mariette El-Soury Massabni (Les Délices De Mariette)

A nice place with a great view in the thames. You arrive walking to take a nice beer after a long day in London. Staff is nice. Recommended 👍👍
Went here unexpectedly, not really knowing what to expect. The star of the night was the buffalo hot chicken wings... beautiful!! Ribs were nice and pickled veg on the side cut through it nicely.
Laid back atmosphere. Slick, but as close to Shoreditch as Canary Wharf can get, with leather banquettes and chesterfields, industrial tables and light fixtures, and artfully mismatched chairs. A great view of the water with wrap around windows.
I lunched with a colleague using a Groupon voucher for the Surf and Turf main at half price. This consisted of a small steak (140g) and half a lobster served with corn on the cob and fries.
Our steaks came as ordered, but because we were using the voucher, I didn't look at the menu and forgot that the steak was a rib eye. That's flavorful cut that is not at its best served blue due to being a slightly fatty. A really experienced, on the ball waitress would have warned me to order rib eye rare or even medium rare, but I only have myself to blame, really. At any rate, the steak was seared at a very high temperature, which is how I like a blue steak.
Garnishes of lightly roasted vine cherry tomatoes and pea shoots were lovely. There was a dollop of good bearnaise on the lobster tail. Skinny fries were crisp. The lobster was tender and sweet and the tails loosened from the shell. So the cooking was really good.
Presentation could have been better thought through, though. The steak was served on a square of pretty gingham patterned paper lining a cutting board. This got soggy and little bits clung to the steak and had to be scraped off. I would have preferred the bearnaise served separately in a little jug, as I do like that sauce on a steak too. We were supplied nutcrackers and surgical instruments for getting at the lobster claws, but had to ask for finger bowls after we got stuck in.
The serving size of the Surf & Turf was perfect for a treat at lunchtime. Copious enough to feel decadent, but not so big that you want to nap at your desk afterwards. Not sure if I would be willing to pay full price for this dish. The well priced Chillean Merlot was pleasant.
We were happy with the cooking here, and plan to return to try burgers. This restaurant does currently honor a 2 for 1 deal with the London Tastecard, so if you want the half price deal for the Surf and Turf, there is no need to rely on Groupon.
