I was also at my granddaughters surprise proposal, lovely staff, great food and very helpful. Great venue would recommend to anyone. As my other granddaughter Charlotte said lots of presecco, beer and wine. Wonderful time made all the better by the great atmosphere
I usually don’t like cod and chips till I tried at Dukes head.It was absolutely amazing and tasty and the cod was meaty not too much thick batter and mushy peas was delightful over all was a excellent Sunday lunch with a very friendly service .
Nice pub and great food.
Good private room upstairs.
My sister was proposed to here yesterday, it was all a big surprise and they staff went out of their way to help as much as possible. Most people had food and really enjoyed it and all the beer, prosecco and champagne went down very well too! Great venue downstairs in The Rowing Club for any private occasions. Thank you again Mantus (sp?) who looked after us all day.
Food is fantastic. Staff are very friendly. View is fantastic.
A rating of 3.5, it was difficult to know what to rate my experience, i wanted to give it higher but also lower, why is this, because of one dish.
Having headed here for our Footy Xmas Dinner we had ordered in advance, this saving time and the rush, although you always get someone that forgets what they ordered.
The Pub is clean, spacious with friendly staff, for my starter i went for Mushroom and Lentil soup, and it was very tasty, i was left wanting more once i had finished it, top marks.
For main i was tempted with the Pork Belly, it did look great but as its Xmas i had to go for the turkey and all the trimmings, i thought i may have food envy of those with the Pork but no such thing. A good portion of turkey was served, moist with stuffing, veg and roast, the gravy was absolutely amazing, i love my gravy and i think this is the best i have tasted. I was fortunate there was no bread on the table else i would have embarrassed myself and mopped it all up.
On to dessert, i went for the cheese but as i hate blue cheese requested if it was possible to have a soft white cheese, to my joy i was told i would be served Brie. Brie a soft, runny, tasty cheese, unfortunately this could not have been further from the truth. Instantly i noticed that the cheese was not soft and runny, i thought it may be frozen but it wasn't, cutting into the cheese it seemed to crumble rather than stretch, be gooey etc, the taste was awful.
Im not sure what the cheese was, old Brie, something else, who knows, it will forever be a mystery.
Apart from the cheese the food was great, so i wish i could have given a 4.5, but don't be put off, just don't go for the Brie as your dessert.
You are just approaching the Putney bridge and it is time to give a delicious break- this multi-storey building with Duke's Head pub, Wolsey Room and Coxswain Dining Room will definitely have all you are looking for.
Actually we were in the Rowing Club, below Duke's head in the Lower Ground. everything on the "Little Luch" menu is absolutely delicious, and I do like this menu particularly as every ingredient and combination appeals to me, I could live with this list of options for such a long, long time :)
Haddock burgers and garnished fennel and chili squid are just yummy, and London Pale Ale to go with - they have the proper, standard beer selection.
Enjoying your time by the river is all the better, once the venue has good food and everything is in the right place, that is why you want to linger on at this venue.
We had an absolutely delicious Sunday roast. The veggies were perfectly cooked, chicken and roast beef were cooked to perfection. Both of us were unable to finish our meal (or eat the Yorkshire pud) due to the size of portion. Maybe slightly small portions would mean less waste and leave room for a dessert? The pub had a busy, friendly atmosphere with great staff and if we lived here it would be our local. Will certainly book again when we next visit Putney.
The Duke's Head in Putney is a real hidden gem. I recently had the pleasure of dining there, and I can't say enough good things about it.
First and foremost, the roast dinner was exceptional. The meat was perfectly cooked, and the veggies were fresh and flavorful. It's a must-try.
The atmosphere at The Duke's Head is fantastic. It's cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect place for a meal with friends or family.
The pub is also impressively clean, which adds to the overall comfort and enjoyment of the visit.
The service was great and friendly. The staff provided fantastic recommendations that made our meal even more enjoyable.
In a nutshell, The Duke's Head in Putney is a fantastic place for a delicious roast, with a welcoming atmosphere, spotless surroundings, and friendly service. I highly recommend it!
Enjoyed a great Sunday Roast. 1st Sunday Roast in London and everything was exactly what I expected. I had the three meat and all of it was perfectly cooked and juicy. A couple of good lagers and called it a day.
Fantastic Sunday lunch, what a treat, lovely setting beside the river with gorgeous views. Well cooked food served by a great team
The food was excellent, waiting staff very on it and we all had a great time. However the experience was let down a lag waiting for food, it took around an hour. The staff said there was a function upstairs with a lot of people, and kitchen was overwhelmed and hence all our food was cold on arrival. So it would have been five stars all round, except for that, but I would still recommend it.
