Lovely restaurant, excellent staff and interesting food. The broth that came with the chicken tortellini was excellent and as with Anglo, we ate a lot of the delicious smoked butter. After trying Anglo for the first time this week, I would say I prefer Anglo, so if you want to know where the star went.. it went there :)
We went during the soft launch. The food is very good with a great mix of flavours. Especially enjoyed the scallops with white chocolate, the lamb and the two desserts (one was strawberry and tomatoes, the other is hard to explain but involved a crunchy biscuit and olives).
The decor is minimalistic, the bread is tasty, they have highchairs and the glass of wine for £5 is good value. The service was friendly and we didn't wait long for our food.
A couple of points, there's only two sides on offer, would like a bit more choice. The mains are a bit small especially considering the price of the dishes (the beef is £27 at full price). But then again it's only 200 metres from Oxford Circus.
Feeling fairly smug at getting to have had a lovely evening here before it gets totally overbooked and impossible to get a seating at this small but perfectly formed place. The chef has a great head for balancing flavors on the plate and has flawless seasoning. The tasting menu is a steal in my opinion, each course is thoughtfully put together, seasonal, and portioning spot on so you don't feel like you're rolling out the door at the end of the evening, just pleasantly satisfied, knowing a ton of hard work and attention to detail and care went into each plate. Front of house Emma was charming, knowledgeable, attentive and such good company. Go quickly before it gets too popular to be fun!
